Impossibel to be selfless

5 posts in this topic

Here is my FB status from today which I wish to share after realizing it is impossible to be "selfless."

The most delusional thing a person can ever claim is that are "selfless." Any act that you do, is in fact, selfish. You cannot operate outside of the "self". This is like a turtle claiming he is turtleless. Should you claim your acts are for the sake of "others" or a "good cause"; that you are apparently sacrificing yourself for something higher than yourself, is also selfish for the simple fact that you take it upon yourself to do such a thing for either it makes you feel good, or is a silly attempt to an undo an action you found to be "selfish" for moral reasons; which in of itself is an attempt to cleanse yourself from any wrongdoings, for the reasons of bettering yourself, or humanity, which improves your chances, or the chances of others' survival. Still selfish.

The more I explore the realm of thought and spirituality; specifically, piercing through the ego, I realize just how deluded we are, as humans, and how much full of shit we have become; so much so, that we will deny this very fact to those who are also full of shit; creating elaborate justifications for our positions or beliefs that we know for a fact are unknowable and impossible to prove.

The most foolish of all types of people are those who believe they know anything for certain and that they cannot be fooled; those who literally think they have achieved any form of mastery or understanding of this reality or life itself; who dare claim to call themselves to be saints, popes, masters, gurus or teachers or whatever title; who insanely claim to know God; to prance around the Earth with their "should-bes" and "moral codes"; claiming they know the way or are doing the work of God. Imagine how deluded even Mother Theresa had to have been to claim she was doing work for others, on behalf of God. What arrogance is this? How an a person ever claim such insanity while she is commanded by her church and by other self-appointed authority figures; humans who claim they know what they are doing. All of their beliefs are assumptions and interpretations to justify their silly opinions and beliefs that cannot be proven to exist from any standpoint other than their own biased perspective; claiming that just because there are billions of fools like themselves, that it must be true... Yet they fail to see that they cannot ever see the world or reality from any other perspective other than their own, which can never be the whole truth for it is only a fraction of the infinite possibility and will always biased from their point.

Any man who claims to be an authority is a fraud. Anyone who bows before another man is a slave. Anyone fearful of the thoughts of others is a coward, yet people once again prance around deluded claiming otherwise; slaves who claim they are here to help others who are enslaved by being selfless, which is clearly impossible. Why go through all this self deception? Well, it is so much simpler than taking full responsibility; to be humble enough to claim we know nothing, and this is why we are in the world we are in today, because we have the audacity to believe that we are not deluded and are not always acting on behalf of ourselves.

I know that my motivations for others are not selfless, but in my view if the end result is good then does it really matter? Even if my motivation is just the joy I get from seeing others have fun. Not selfless, but not a bad thing.

I operate under the assumption that we do the best we can with what we have, and to be wary of anyone claiming capital T truth or a cure all.

We are but foolish humans doing foolish things and fumbling through existence.

Well my point is that people believe that being selfish is evil or wrong, when in fact, it is the only thing we can ever be. There is not one thing anyone can name that doesn't come back to themselves doing it for a reason driven by their ego/self for selfish reasons. Even the argument "It's just in my nature" which is something I would say, is selfish.

I didn’t say being selfish is wrong, as I said if the end result is good then who cares about motivation.

Its like people who argue about transcending emotions to see clearly, but the fact is that such a thing is rooted in emotion.

It’s also funny how Leo refers to it as evil, or deceit, which is throwing out all the nuance and complexity behind our motivations and the mind. By default our brains construct reality based on our senses, when we see isn’t objective reality. But I would hardly call that deception.

It takes a little more than “because I say so” to make me fall for anything he says.

Your on to something buddy...What is the root of this selfishness? Why are we selfish? Can we do something about this selfishness?

Seeing these facts that you have just pointed out so very clearly what would be the next step of action?

And are you sure that there can not be an operation witout the self?

Have you inquired into the nature of thought yet? Have you inquired into the nature of the self in depth? Are you aware of the relationship between the two?

You are on the right track. Break down all the walls that have been constructed by conditioning, and the subtle selective hinderances that thought ”the self” has constructed. But go about this as objectively as possible.

If you feel like you can not look directly at yourself to inquire into this thought, message me and I’ll find a way to share this with you more in depth.

Until then ?
