Should I stop watching Leo's videos?

7 posts in this topic

So I've been watching Actualized.org for about 3 years now. I bought the book list and just recently started reading one book of the book list. Leo himself said in one occasion that he wishes for people to stop watching his videos and go do the research and work themselves. I've been considering this since I've noticed sometimes I just blindly believe some of the stuff he says. I fear I might turn all he talks about into dogmas and blind beliefs. He put out a video on the blog where he explains that if you stick with him you will undestand more about life than an academic. Should I go into this journey alone and just read a tone of books and do the work myself or should I continue to watch the videos?

You are over thinking. Just start the journey already (which you have already it, seems). You 'll make decisions as you go. You have to be the one doing the work regardless.

Do both, you need your own experiences and check back to see how you're going. What i find a lot of the time is he ends up explaining things i have experienced but was at the time unable to convert  to words. I may have had a grasp of it but listening to him really cemented the trail of breadcrumbs language can be to unlocking more of those experiences. As language only represents the experience, which it in itself is not. Hence why you NEED to do your own work.

I would say not necessarily stop watching his videos but maybe start watching others, read more than just one book, talk to many people, travel, do some thinking, meditate. It will all give you more perspective. I catch myself sometimes on getting easily carried away by some people’s ideas without thinking them over critically. But the more I read on the subject, the more aware I am. More open to new ideas.

As long as you apply what you watch/read/learn ect.. you are not wasting time. If you don't apply what you learn then you do not grow with it.

@Andre Quinonez

It all has value in its own context.

If you're just starting out, I definitely wouldn't hesitate to go heavy on the research. And Leo is talented at summing up many different sources. So do it all.
