Passion For Enlightenment

1 post in this topic

I f you find yourself continuously looking, reading, writing, watching  videos on this never ending journey and you do it without any force or persuasion (talking from my own experience).  You will start to get glimpses of awareness.  It is only  a matter of time. They will be different from anything you have ever felt before.  My source of reference for enlightenment is very diverse.  I have not spent many hours in meditation.  To be quite honest, very few hours.  But I have spent hours and hours contemplating and watching my own mind.

How I first got started.  I was watching a movie, I don't remember the title, when in one of the scenes a group of people were walking on some strange planet to a destination.  To be allowed to reach this place, there was one condition they had to follow.  They were not allowed to have any thoughts enter their minds.  If a thought popped up, something that looked like a baseball bat would jump out of the ground and hit them on the head!  So I started practicing this method (of course only in my minds eye :) Every time I would try to clear my mind and a thought popped up, simultaneously I envisioned a bat coming up and bopping me on the head!  I know this might sound crazy but it worked!! Even I was shocked!  Over time it slowed my mind down and allowed me to concentrate on my immediate surroundings and be in the present longer and longer.  I did this every morning driving to and from work.  How I think this method worked was by enforcing an internal alarm clock that kicked in immediately upon a thought arising.  I'm sure you can use other imaginative ways but I did want to share this with anyone who is having a hard time trying to stop the eternal monkey from chattering!  Who knows maybe it will work for you too!
