40 Years of Zen

8 posts in this topic

I am looking to get Leo's and community's opinion of this neurofeedback technique called 40 Years of Zen. Many successful people really stand by it. Is it something perhaps as powerful as psychedelics or just a money grab?

In the latest video Leo mentioned achieving enlightenment through technology, was he referring to this?

The only problem with it is, you gotta pay like $20,000.

And it won't make you enlightened, although it could help to optimize your brain function.

I've done much cheaper versions of neurofeedback training at home. But it's really complicated and still costs at least $3000.

Most people would be better off investing that money into psychedelics and meditation retreats.

If you've got lots of money to burn, by all means go for it.

The only issue I see with it (besides the cost, given that meditation is free) Is that it is reliant on the way scientists think the brain should work. To me it seems that every brain works so much differently, that it makes me wonder how mapping your brain and comparing it to the population can be as effective as simply observing your own operating system. It does look cool though.

Meditation is the mind training itself. You are just along for the ride.

My experience with neurofeedback is that it can quickly teach a person how to meditate very efficiently, cutting time off the traditional trial and error process.

It can also optimize the functioning of the brain -- which is different from optimizing the mind. Training the brain is actually a different task than training the mind.

Yes, I'm aware of the irony of their not being a brain, and yet it still being trainable. It's paradoxical stuff.

The best part about all of this is that even after awakening, there is an entire lifetime of learning and curiosity ahead. Its amazing.

@MaxvladU need nothing but energy my friend?

Dont be deceived by the propaganda. People saying that they got the goods and these goods come at a price.

Freedom from the self is not for sale. It can not be given or sold to you.

I hope you consider this before somebody picks your pocket and sells you your own watch?

Leo, could you please make a video about that.

I know there are a ton of apps and gadgets out there that will help you meditate, but are they really worth the investment?

When I started meditating, I used to use isochronic tones and hypnosis videos. The hypnosis videos were helpful in that they can make it more clear how deeply you can relax, which translates nicely into meditation. I dont know if it ultimately helped me, but at the time it seemed helpful. There are a lot on youtube for free if you want to try it out. I don't think there is anything that will help to induce awakening, but it may bring a bit more concentration and body awareness.
