How can enlightened yogis be deceiving themselves?

41 posts in this topic

Most enlightened yogis say that they live most of their days without any thoughts.

Self deception is done by the mind.

There is nothing to mind except thought.

That means that enlightened yogis spend most of their time with zero self deception.

And yet according to Professor Leo from Harvard, those enlightened yogis have 10% self deception.

It doesn’t add up.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

*MOST* days

But not ALL days.

@How to be wise What truly doesn't add up is people acting 100% perfectly, or minds thinking 100% accurately.

Point me out one such person.

I have witnessed the most enlightened of masters talking factual falsehoods. Precisely as expected!

I would be skeptical of anyone who considers themselves to be an "enlightened yogi".  That's a pretty strong identification.  Better to think of yourself as a student than a master in this work.

@Leo Gura what did Peter say that was a fraud?

He refuses to accept that 5-MeO-DMT gives an experience of the Absolute.

He also claims that yogis are not enlightened. And that kundalini rising cannot lead to enlightenment.

He is simply wrong on those points (according to me of course; you will have to discover who is right for yourself).

@Leo Gura That’s weird. He keeps harping about not-knowing and here he is not taking his own medicine.

I think that's the difference between knowing and embodying something? there are layers to understanding and knowing

whatever arises, love that

It's not weird at all.

In practice, even the most enlightened people must use the mind for practical matters and to make decisions and evaluations, which are based on imperfect information, so they can always be wrong.

There is a lot more to knowledge and life than strictly enlightenment. The mind is filled with thousands of beliefs, even for an enlightened master. He couldn't navigate everyday life otherwise.

Just to flip on a light switch, you must hold the belief that it will work. And if it fails to work, you'll be in for a bit of a rude awakening.

Ralston also never claims complete enlightenment. He says it has infinite depth. Which is a very smart position to take.

Good question. Also how do you measure self deception as a harvard professor?O.o

How can they be so sure of what happened yesterday is actually so.
Did it really happen, is the memory fully correct? Perhaps they remember it as being fully aware?
Perhaps the thing that remembers was aware, but they were not actually, and their memory is false? How can you remember what you were doing yesterday, and everything you were thinking while you were doing it? Or do they have a clicker they click every time they think?

I would only trust what is happening Now. What would keep track of last week, and why does it matter?
Is there a contest somewhere, like a yogi cup?

Oh you finally noticed that abstract ideal they teach people to chase like a carrot on a stick to keep the seekers on the hamster wheel paying for the teaching to believe something that they don't really have either.

Congratulations you are really awake now so find fulfillment, enjoyment and peace fron life in just being present in it.

Lal it’s us who try to learn how not to think, but for real Masters it’s no longer relevant problem, they already risen above thoughts and have capacity to think anytime without being overly deceived by thoughts. Hehe as Sadhguru said: ‘it took millions years of evolution to create such an amazing thing in your skull and now the only thing you care about is how to stop using it instead of trying to learn how to use it’.

If a yogi is enlightened, he will know the difference between the paranormal and enlightenment. He would contribute to the fact that all is one, and that everything is him. He would live his life this way by going in this direction.
