Do you have  a mentor and if yes, how did he impact your life and how did you find him ?

A mentor is worth a thousand books they say but I'm actually wondering how it applies in practice

found a vipasssana retreat online 

the teacher is the nicest man named Alex Young who is only about 35 years old but he has been doing deep vipassana meditation for like 12 years or something

He has helped me a lot with my meditation and now I'm going to thailand to meditate in a monastery (that he recommended) for 3 months

I only found him through research and reaching outside my comfort zone

Surely anyone can be mentored and would be helpful to, but at the same time you can be so serious and dedicated about personal development that you'll find one or any necessary advice eventually. My friend (or should I say hot witch girlfriend ) who has done some witchcraft said that she can sense another witch's energy within 5 kilometers. So there are even that kind of ways to find a mentor.
