Passion or distraction??

7 posts in this topic

Lately I've been really interested in photography, i really love the idea of capturing reality in a picture. Now i also fantasized about working as a photographer and traveling and stuff and later earning my money with that . Now i dont know if this is really something i love or just some distraction from learning the theory and doing self actualization work

@Alien do what makes you feel happy. Your only on this planet once. I’m sure taking some photos isn’t going to be the end of the world!

Passion is doing it anyway and enjoying/loving it even if you it didn't give you the money or ability to travel.

Finding your passion, your life purpose, doing meaningful work and having it support you is not a distraction from your life, that IS self actualization work.

I have this exact same problem. I find it kind of hard to decide, because from what I hear, enlightenment is this unimaginable state of awesome being. But on the other hand you have all the stuff your mind wants to do.

Strategically (from what I know) enlightenment is the better option because of all its benefits. But I still want to do all this other stuff.

What I'm going to do, is pretty much both for now, and see what happens. If it ever comes to a point (which it probably will) where I have to decide between enlightenment/self-actualization and my other stuff. I'll probably choose enlightenment, because from what I hear, the other option will leave me wanting more.

But unless you choose to become a extreme hardcore enlightenment junkie and spend all your time meditating in a cave. There will be time to do other stuff.

@Jamie Universe the paradox is you're on an Inner journey and an outer journey at the same time and they compliment each other, and you really can do both, you'll come across opportunities to really focus on your inner journey and you'll come across opportunities to really focus on your outer journey not forgetting both of which are what life is all about.

Hi @Alien . I don't see any conflict between photography and Self Actualization work. Photography, as any other form of art, can be done from a place of high consciousness, love, curiosity and intelligence. It becomes a distraction only if you do it for the wrong reasons.

I believe the purpose of self actualization is to go out into the world and inspire others to seek self actualization too. You can do both, be an amazing person and inspire all those you work with and maybe even the whole world if you become a world class photographer. No way an artist is not self actualizing, true art is purely that, open awareness channeling their inner being and what they see in the world.
