is midday contemplation worth something?

6 posts in this topic

almost every time I have a tiny break like going somewhere, eating, or basically things that dont require mental energy, I contemplate about stuff. I was wondering if thats any use, because its kind of scattered sometimes and the concentration is not fully on the contemplated subject.

I think what your describing is like when I go into the shower, and just think about stuff in the middle of a fast-paced day. During these breaks, we have time to contemplate feelings from our intuition and think about things that we can't during work, school, and whatnot.

@Cjaryo yeah, that, but the problem with that is that people are also advocating being aware of breath or being conscious during these breaks, so I wondered whats better, if thinking about stuff during the day is just monkey mind or not. if theres any use from that

I personally think that letting my mind think of whatever in gravitates for helps the most, that it's more relaxing that forcing consciousness/breathing, which can feel neurotic in a stressful day.

Some meditation involves letting your mind go crazy and paying attention to those thoughts without judgement. Are these thoughts just little day dreams? Or do they sometimes get dark and you are remembering an argument with someone a year ago, an ex girl friend from a decade ago etc? So I think there is vaule in it, just use it as a chance to see how conditioned your mind has become and decide which thought patterns are worth growing and which thought patterns are worth eroding.

Also I imagine a silent mind your entire life is not good. We have the benefit of internal voice and there was a time when humans didn't have language skills strong enough to have an internal voice. I imagine those first humans were much more peaceful than us but also incapable of communicating effectively enough to advance like we have. I think the meditative experience is required to help us not go crazy with our internal voice but the silent mind thing is not meant to be our waking state.

I absolutely love to just be aware when I do mundane things. You will get so much juice and enjoyment out of these things if you are more aware of them. Your mind is scattered because you are multitasking.

To enhance the quality of your contemplation, make sure that you are doing nothing else and that you contemplate deep topics that interest you. The nature of contemplation is that it goes deeper the longer you contemplate a single topic. If you do it right, it can benefit you.

Spirituality is any movement towards the Unnamable. Everything is spiritual.

The only true way out Resistance is going into it because any way out of it is staying in it.

The purest life possible is surrendering to the Absolute.
