Saulden is the crest-fallen warrior of Dark Souls 2.

Saulden has given up trying trying to re-kindle the flame to prevent mankind from going "hollow", a state in which those branded with the curse (pretty much everyone and everything) where in, the curse, slowly and mentally detrioates ones body, once dead, those branded with curse are simply reborn, but slightly weaker than they were before. The cycle continues until they a mindless brain-dead zombie like organism.

 He explains why it is simultaneously pointless, yet worth persuing, to re-kinde the first flame. 

Is Saulden enlightened? Does he fully grasp the singularity?????
