Animated Movies

10 posts in this topic

When i watch an animated movie i am so deeply satisfied afterwards like nothing else. I am drawn to them like crazy. If i am to a have a career i will definitely choose a field related to that. But the problem is i don't know what to learn or study. Anyone here who can steer me in the right direction.

(I know i should be looking on the internet for the answer but i think maybe someone here might have some knowledge about where to start)

if you want to make animated movies a good place to start it to be an animator (2d or 3d) you should be able to find some good tutorial online on how to get started as an animator :)

some good programs to start with:

2d: adobe flash (not free)

http://www.adobe.com/products/animate.html

3d: blender (Free but have pretty much everything you need at least as a beginner)

https://www.blender.org/

(you will probably need seperated books to learn how to animated in 3d these tutorials are mostly on how to use the program

free blender tutorials:

2d animation books

This is for learning how to do 2d animations like on my YT channel. I still keep it simple tough.

To learn 3d animation I recommend using Maya or Blender.

*Personal Message me anytime if you have questions

Thnaks @BjarkeT @dude
@Soulbass. What I like about them is , how it is possible to create these effects ?. I have watched them without sound and subtitles. Still i find them so mesmerizing.

@Jhonny  I'd like to point something, just food for thought :

Great stories are one thing, and the animation medium another.

They can be paired very well, but always ask yourself :

Why don't you just use a camera ? Or write a novel ?

Nowaday with VFX we can do everything, animation isn't meant to mimic the real world.

Focus first on story, then find a way to tell it using the animation medium.

Take a pen and a paper, walk in the street, observe and draw what you see. Then back home, install "plastic animation paper", learn how to use it and tell what you have seen.

You need a Wacom too (like wacom bamboo pen).

You can edit the sequences and add sound with any video editing software (sony vegas is cool).

I had a lot of problems with sony vegas in the past. I reccomend using adobe products. It crashed while rendering and stuff.

That is a really nice take on it tough. Think really deep about the story. I'm currently working on that a lot.

@dude I had crashing issues with adobe, that's why i skipped to vegas x) It's probably a matter of OS or versions.

Being lost in comparing softwares seems a step you cannot skip, try demos and figure out what work best for yourself.

Well...I'm going to have to do a little rant here...but then I will blast out of that into some optimism for ya, ok?

I went to 2 animation schools and worked in animation/ at studios...working in this field (often 12-16 hours days) on other people's projects isn't always "the dream"....I also worked at 2 studios that went bankrupt, so unless you are in L.A. or something, it may not be the most stable either....

Pros: amazing creative super fun co-workers, an actual trade that is art (like tattooing), decent pay, constant growth and learning, etc...

I prefer the idea of working independently on my own projects now :)

@Epiphany_Inspired Aha you summed it well.

For the hours a day and the pay, it depends on the country you are working in and the type of project (tv series, feature film, commercial...)
