Do I Need To Self-inquire?

26 posts in this topic

Or is meditation sufficient? I have been meditating for 2 years now for about 1-2 hours a day. I was wondering if that is enough or if I need to replace an hour with self-inquiry or add an hour to my schedule.

I rather search for knowledge and see if its true or not

I don't know what to do anymore.  I feel like I can't actually do anything.  I can sit there and do nothing and sometimes it's good but usually I just fall asleep after a while, If i try to do self inquiry or anything like that my brain goes blank and I can't do anything again but yet it once again just leads to me falling asleep.  After a lot of do nothing meditation it's like I can't convince myself to actually do something.

1) Then don't do anything at all.

2) This is "your" ego, crying that "you" have to do something. At the same time it's making "you" feel bad because "you" fall asleep.

3) Ofcourse "you" can't convince "yourself" to do something. "You" can't manipulate reality in a way your "ego" likes. "You"   just don't feel like it, period. Accept this fact, and simply let the universe take over.

Even saying that "you" have to accept it, is kind of stupid, because "you" already are, "you" just don't realize it yet.
Imagine "yourself" riding a rollercoaster, it's already doing it's thing, and "you" can't manipulate it, or get out.
Yet "you" are screaming "oh no, slow down!", "i don't want this anymore",... It's the same thing.

@onacloudynight what do you want and when do you want it?

Well I eventually want to get enlightened. I guess I'm not in a hurry per se, but I didn't know if Self-inquiry is a faster method. I really enjoy just meditating.

@Nahm I would say I am getting connected to being through meditation. Right now my meditations have felt really good, but sometimes during some sessions it feels like hell to sit there for just 30 minutes when weeks ago I could sit 1 hour no problem.

@onacloudynight what happened?

I have no idea. Probably my ego just acting up, but it feels like I am exerting too much energy. I feel drained.

Let's see logically I know that there is no-self, but honestly I would say that the mind practices it?

what is "mind"?
and where do definitions come from ultimately?
what is the substance of a belief?

My idea of the mind is a collection of thoughts. I believe definitions and beliefs come out of emptiness.

@onacloudynight if you could snap your fingers and change anything about your habits, as far as starting or stopping, what would it be?

Good question. I would stop distracting myself with excessive internet usage and music consumption. What is funny is that I was doing good, but I guess I just had a big backslide. I oddly am not that concerned about it.

@onacloudynight that’s it?

Yeah, I don't know what's going on to be honest. It is like my motivation to meditate just dropped all of a sudden.

What was the very first thing which made you meditate in your life?
