People's Phobia!!

14 posts in this topic

Something very strange about my social anxiety! when I meet someone for a short period of time, I sometimes fear him or her. For exampe, this semester at unversity, I couldn't stand and talk a certain classmates, and I even started thinking about them all the time when at home!!

What do you think guys? I can't explain that!!

I have a small exercise for you, if you like:

Ask yourself over and over again the following question:

"What does this person represent to me?"

Look at the answer in your mind and as soon as you have the answer, ask the question again.

Don't jump from one person to another person. Do it with one specific person at a time.

Do it, until you are satisfied. You may recognize something for yourself that you haven't thought about before.

Let me know how it worked in case you try.

If you have questions, let me know.

I hope I have understood your question " what this person represent to me?" let's start with a classmate which I always feel inferior against. Hamza, I think he represents social skills and confidence with all classmates, and especially with girls which makes me scared!!

Thanks for your help! :)

Good.

Just keep doing the exercise until you're fine with Hamza.
You will see, as you are continuing with the exercise, more and more "labels", "superimpositions", "images" etc. will come to view. Maybe he reminds you of another person or a social group etc.
Just look at the answers, and ask again over and over again.

From time to time you can also ask:
"How does this person (e.g. Hamza) seem to me now?" (every 5 questions)

And then again 5x the question
"What does this person represent to me?"

Kind regards,
Chris

Just do the exercise and let's see how you feel, ok?

There are many things you can do afterwards, but first do this. :-)

Hi Chris. I have asked more questions. It does feel different now as I realize that I don't hate the person himself. Rather, I am jelous of his qualities: confidence, social skills, verbal skills, his good studying. Thanks, it seems you are going help me relieve in this semester. :)

Muhammad :)

Hello Muhammad,

well done! I'm glad you found it out.

What about the anxiety your wrote about before. Is it different now?

Can you see what you can do to upgrade your own qualities?
