Music To Inspire Enlightenment

Played this song today, thought about a daydream I had a few years ago.  Realized that it was a representation of the chakras.  My "chakra" was Yellow.  Yellow Tiger.  Afraid to move from it's point of light.  Looked into these; turns out yellow has to do with shame as well as productivity, some fears perhaps...  Will look more into it today...
Apparently breath is important.  Breath of fire; life.
There's a story here.  When I get a computer I'll work on some art to try to explain it as best as I can.  True intuition seems to come on it's own when it wants to.  Every month around this time it seems to return with new information.  The ego dissolves.  It returns.  It dissolves.
Why is it doing this... what... hm...
It's moving from 'me' to 'you', and there's where you learn something new!

This cartoon is extremely informative.  Going to rewatch it this week.

This one has meant a lot to me since I was around 13. It was probably my very first mind opener. If you are looking to offer the idea of PD to a teenager in agnst, this might be the bridge.

Almost every day
I see the same face
On broken picture tube
It fits the attitude
If you could see yourself
You put you on a shelf
Your verbal masturbate
Promise to nauseate
Today I'll play the part of non-parent
Not make a hundred rules
For you to know about yoursef
Not lie and make you believe
What's evil is making love
and making friends
and meeting God you're own way
The right way

To see
To bleed
Cannot be taught
In turn
You're making us
Fucking hostile

We stand alone

The truth in right and wrong
The boundaries of the law
You seem to miss the point
Arresting for a joint?                   (SCROLL UP)
You seem to wonder why
Hundreds of people die
You're writing tickets man
My mom got jumped -- they ran!
Now I'll play a public servant

To serve and protect
By the law and the state
I'd bust the punks
That rape steal and murder
And leave you be
If you crossed me
I'd shake your hand like a man
Not a god

To see
To bleed
Cannot be taught
In turn
You're making us
Fucking hostile

Come meet your maker, boy
Some things you can't enjoy
Because of heaven/hell
A fucking wives' tale
They put it in your head
Then put you in your bed
He's watching say your prayers
Cause God is everywhere
Now I'll play a man learning priesthood
Who's about to take the ultimate test in life
I'd question things because I am human
And call NO ONE my father who's no closer that a stranger

I won't listen

To see
To bleed
Cannot be taught
In turn
You're making us
Fucking hostile

This song came to me a few days ago and the words held a lot of meaning to me, so I sat and actually listened to the song on repeat for an hour for a few days trying to clear my mind and just 'listen'.  Let everything go.  Just be in the moment without over-conceptualizing everything.

Then Leo's video about roles came out, and it was just so perfect for what I've been trying to drop.  So I've been thinking on those to this song:

And when I listened to it last night, a lot of things fell away (for the moment - my ego isn't finished yet), I was so immersed in how it made me feel - so very, very in the moment, in that divine state of flow - electricity ran up my spine a few times, my breathing became long, deep breaths, hands clasped together like in a prayer, moving very gently from front to back, like a clock - and the music in that moment was all that there was.

"The holiest thing I know"

I keep forgetting this important aspect.  Even what that is needs to be dropped - but I cling to it because it feels so safe, to be reminded that we are all connected and that no one is alone.

Roles... attachments.  Pasts and futures.  Concepts.
I have my cat here, I've had her for 11 years.  She has cancer and will be put down this Friday.  And yet she lives now, happy in my arms, looking up at me sometimes.  She has no knowledge of her past, or worries about being sick or fears for her death.  She just is.

One of my last attachments.  Heartbreakingly valuable lessons... there's a lot to be learned in the power of music as well, I feel.

It will make a weak man mighty
It will make a mighty man fall
It will fill your heart and hands
Or leave you with nothing at all
It's the eyes for the blind
And legs for the lame
It is love for hate
And pride for shame...

Sing me a song, you're a singer
do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil
The Devil is never a maker
the less that you give, you're a taker
So it's on and on and on, it's Heaven and Hell, oh well

The lover of life's not a sinner
The ending is just a beginner
The closer you get to the meaning
the sooner you'll know that you're dreaming
So it's on and on and on, oh it's on and on and on
It goes on and on and on, Heaven and Hell
I can tell, fool, fool!

Well if it seems to be real, it's illusion
for every moment of truth, there's confusion in life
Love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer
and it's on and on, on and on and on....

They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell, oh well
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
you get to keep the gold that falls
It's Heaven and Hell, oh no!
Fool, fool!
You've got to bleed for the dancer!
Fool, fool!
Look for the answer!
Fool, fool, fool!

First off check out that optical illusion, it's the album cover for Merriweather Post Pavillion, Animal Collective's most successful and accessible album and arguably their best.

The song's lyrics start out with

"Am I really all the things that are outside of me?" and that line is repeated over and over at the end.  Sounds a lot like enlightenment.

Other lyrics include: "Would I complete myself without the things I like around?" (being grounded in yourself) and "Do you appreciate the subleties of tastebuds?" (mindfulness)

Also Good Girl / Carrots off of Person Pitch, a solo record by Panda Bear, one of Animal Collective's members has these lyrics:

"Listen in between your notes
There's something been going on
While you were busy taking notes
And look in between your moments
There's something good happening
Its good to sometimes
Slow it down"

Also Death Grips' "Lord of the Game" feat. Mexican Girl and featuring a sample (without legal permission) from Beastie Boys' "Brass Monkey" ends well:

"Fuck where you're from,
Fuck where you're goin,
It's all about where you're at"

Also they sing a lot about death which is pretty cool.

Also Between the Buried and me has some spiritual and enlightenment themes in their music.  Stuff like cutting away every piece of you til what's left is unrecognizable, etc.  Here's a song called Astral Body that's light on the screaming and about astral projection.  If you like heavy metal they've got lots of other great stuff.

“Curiosity killed the cat.”

This is from the Devin Townsend Project's latest release, 'Transcendence'. Mad ego-pride that he's Canadian!

That's life (that's life) that's what people say
You're riding high in April
Shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I said, that's life (that's life) and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks
Stompin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world it keeps spinnin' around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life) I tell ya, I can't deny it
I thought of quitting, baby
But my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate
A poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing
Each time I find myself layin' flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life (that's life) that's life
And I can't deny it
Many times I thought of cuttin' out but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come here this July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
My, my

KOAN Sound is amazing. Best electronic music I've heard in a long time. Sick production skills do these guys indeed have. Recommended tracks: View From Above, Lost in Thought, Sentient, Forgotten Myths.

Quote

KOAN: A puzzling, often paradoxical statement or story, used in Zen Buddhism as an aid to meditation and a means of gaining spiritual awakening.

What is the buddha?
Three pounds of flax.
