What Is Mindfulness

10 posts in this topic

Is mindfulness just being in the moment like when im having a lot of taughts but im conscious of them is that mindfulness even doe im "in them" and judging them and not just observing them. Because i find my self being in the moment almost the whole day and aware of every taught but i usually get caught in them and start negative thinking and its hard for me to stop even knowing im doing it, its like i must think.

Mindfulness is the art of allowing whatever is in awareness to be. Gently noticing and not attaching to anything that is noticed.

So you may notice it's not only your thoughts there right now, there are also sensations,  sights,  sounds, feelings.

Just observe with detachment, meaning, don't pay more attention to one thing and follow it. Allow all to be there as it appears,  but don't go after or try to hold on to anything, which includes thought patterns.

@Dodo so mindfulness is not thinking and beeing in the moment while thinking? and that isnt rising my coincioussnes. So i must not attach? And if im judging my self and beeing negative should i be mindfull or stop the thinking?

Let thought be there,  since it is. Be aware of the thoughts but do not attach yourself to them. You are not the thoughts and also not the one creating the thoughts.  They are a phenomenon in your wider awareness, just like any other.

See that they appear in the same space of you as do all other sensations.

A sound outside and a thought within both appear in your awareness no? What is this place where all your experiences appear?

If the answer to said question comes as a thought,  it also is not the space itself, since it also appears in it.

Be that space, you cannot know it. This is how to connect with the higher Truth.

If judging persists, ask yourself,  does that space judge any of the experiences within it? Or is it simply another content in that space that is doing the judging? The content in that space cannot be you, because the rest of the experiences are not reporting to that one, they are reporting to you.

So yes, you got it

Sorry, you did not ask for self-inquiry,  you want mindfulness. Are you interested in self inquiry?

@haai14 you said it very well - be the moment, not any content in it.

The Ego, or the sense of self you take yourself to be is only another content appearing in the wider space of awareness or the now.

Go in meditation. Look at videos by Mooji and Rupert Spira for more clarity.
