Confusion About 'raising Awareness'

5 posts in this topic

I hear Leo often talk about raising awareness. To me that is very confusing. I watch and am very involved in Rupert Spira's teachings and one of the things he said when I was at one of his retreats was, ( I'm paraphrasing here ) "One does not have to do mantra meditation or whatever for 20 years to find his true nature because it is already there and couldn't be any different. Are you not the one that knows your experience?"

Rupert also talks about dismanteling ones focus on objects and bringing it back to it roots. Awareness being aware of itself.

Is that something that could mean the same as what Leo is talking about? Raising ones awareness = Dismanteling focus on objects and bringing awareness back to itself to abide in it's own presence. ?

I've had glimpses into what I think you are describing. The closest I can describe the experience: "is"

I am becoming more aware of how my mind keeps adding to "is" - adding thoughts, concepts, judgements, separation etc. For example, I've noticed every time my mind uses an adjective - it is adding to, and separating from,  "is".  (Doing that is also "is", yet it seems awareness of what "is" is becomes reduced or lost).

I think what is meant by

is that meditation's purpose isnt to make enlightenment happen.

meditation's purpose is to raise awareness, and that helps to find the true nature of yourself, makes it easier.

One can raise or change one's state of consciousness but not Awareness as that is deeper than any change.

@Max_V practically speaking, it comes down to your way of dealing with daily/mundane tasks.

  • do you experience lack of patience?
  • are you attached to the fruits of your work?
  • are you possessive on your relationships?
  • do you allow addictions to ruin your goals?
  • do you experience fear of failure?
