Methods Of Processing And Memorizing Self Actualization Material

7 posts in this topic

I am very interested in what your guys method is of processing theory, information, and techniques from books and Leo’s videos for example.

I find it difficult to keep things in order and find my way of watching these videos and reading books without it feeling like it becomes work or something I’m obligated to do.

It kind of loses it’s simpicity and fun for me when I have to keep a pencil near to underline all important stuff in a book for example

So do you guys have some different methods I could try to use for processing and the better memorization of information ?

@Max_V I keep a digital notebook on my phone, so I can always and easily acces it (Evernote). If I read something interesting in a book, I take a picture of it and add it to my notebook. Its good for writing down quick insights too. I currently have:

- an insight page

- a self inquiry journal

- a "Leo vids" page (summary)

- book pages (pictures, text)

@Max_V There's always basic principles from all the information and it's best to remember it through repitition, which just comes from engaging in the material, that's still effective if you don't want to take full on notes and book highlighting, you'll start understanding things like osmosis lol

Then as you go about your life, experiences will happen, and especially when you become curious about your functioning in a certain area, or a problem arises.. that's when the learning happens. You use those opportunities to first be mindful and notice what's happening, then you can from memory start using whatever you've learnt and putting it into practice. You may have to go back and adjust to learn more if what you have isn't effective. Through lots of application in this manner, you build up a deeper and deeper understanding of a concept you've remembered.

Soon you'll start seeing links between everything and certain more useful reactions become habitual

It's just like any skill, like say learning a piano, learn some theory, you'll end up remembering it, then in practice you understand more and more the nuances of how to apply it, when etc.

I just recall the information it's also very quick to do

if i rember right cal newport did some research on how straigt a students learned and one of the best techniques he found was that they used active recall(an other was just that they would explain the information as if they where a teacher themselves) for rembering the information better it should also be a good way to not having the illusion of competence which is basically the illusion of that you think you know the martial but really don't if you haven't gotten the aha moment of an idea it's probably a good sign that you don't really know it to aviod the illusion of competence just recall the information without looking at any source material

something else you could do could be over learning(and spaced repetition) its an extremely usefull technique if you want to rember it in long term

Make some voluminous notes that you can review on a daily/weekly basis.  Don't forget to do the meditation, self-inquiry, responsible psychedelics, contemplation, as well as reviewing the theory.  You need all of it.  The element that a lot of people don't talk about is participation on this Forum.  My growth has been expedited because I utilized this Forum to the max.  You gotta collaborate with other people on the path.  Also, when you are growing you'll appreciate the emotional support of others who are going through it too.  The Ego needs to be bullied and cajoled into cannibalizing itself with carrots and sticks.  It's a long-term re-negotiation process.  But the Truth don't lie, so it becomes increasingly hard for the Ego to survive when your awareness increases beyond certain threshold points.  Watch all of Leo's videos multiple times.  Repetition is so important to learning.  Over and over and over and over again.  Finally it might stick.  Then over and over and over and over again.  This is where reviewing notes on a routine is helpful.  You're not gonna be exposed to something once and learn it.  The Ego will shoot that down fast.  Remember -- the Ego is like a system that wants to survive.  You're not gonna knock it off its guard by a half-hearted attempt to raise your awareness.  You gotta grab the bull by the horns and engage this like a soldier on the battlefield.  You gotta face-down the Ego.  There is no easy way around this -- around the gritty and non-linear process of increasing awareness.

Watch this video on point:

@Joseph Maynor Yes I have been really improving my practises across all things. I meditate 1 hour and 30 minutes every day now. Also I try to self inquire during my day. Once in let's say 2/3 days I will do a concentrated practise of self inquiry. I've noticed if I force myself to self inquire, it doesn't feel as natural and it starts being something mechanical which is something I don't like because I really love  contemplating and looking into the nature of consciousness. It feels kind of disrespectful to turn that into a obligatory practice instead of doing it when I'm naturally pulled towards it.

The only thing that has been going not as succesful is the theory part. I watch a lot of Rupert Spira videos and I have interacted once with him too but that has been really it these past 2 months. I haven't been reading as much and I haven't watched any of Leo's videos. I feel resistance from doing these things for some reason. It doesn't feel authentic to do atm.

I will take up reading again, resistance could be a trap that I'm falling into. I will continue reading The Book of Not Knowing.

You have got to keep pushing until you break through, but the truth is, to step over to the other side and truly experience awakening, you have to kill the Buddha, with the more you carry the longer it is going to take.

Its heartbreaking.
