@Wouter

Reading a book about overthinking will only result in more thinking hence will not solve your problem.

Do something practical instead. Get out of your head by going into your body.

Imo opinion the root cause of overthinking and trying to understand, is the belief, that there is something that can be understood by thinking about it, in the first place. But in fact thinking and understanding are orthogonal at times and you need to stop thinking and work into some other direction to understand, e.g. do something with your body on the physical level. Martial arts, Tai Chi or yoga are great for that matter.

I'd say any book about enlightenment and spirituality can help you.

One thing though: you don't need a book to understand overthinking. You can just sit down and really contemplate overthinking, and from that you will derive understanding.

They're right. But if you could use a book about how to do that I would recommend "mindfulness in plain english". Really practical.

@TimStr That wouldn' solve the issue. It would only mask the issue.

@Wouter

Then tell me: How on earth can you solve the issue of overthinking by thinking about it?!

At some point thinking has to stop, that's what you want to achieve.

There's a Fritz Perals quote about this that I really love:

Quote

People have to loose their minds and come to their senses.

Doing highly physical activities like sports and especially body awareness related exercises gets you in touch with your senses. They also tend to provide you with that "Just do it, don't think about it" mindset, that you can't possibly get by reading or studying more.

no @Wouter, he is right. you think that there's a deeper issue, but this is the very issue itself: you heal overthinking by doing something that completely breaks your pattern. and the body is a straightforward key.

the mind goes with the flow of your daily activities. become free of mind agitating tasks like porn addiction, masturbation addiction, video games, animes, loud music and become friends with Silence.

listen to the naturally beautiful sound of your breath touching your throat. go watch the sea and listen to it. do something completely different and keep on breaking your patterns.

@Wouter bring your attention to what is happening internally within you, whether reading a book or 'over thinking'. Watch the thoughts themself instead of attaching to them. Where do they arise from? Try and do this without judgement always.

The answer is within you.
