Being Bored

4 posts in this topic

Back story

A few years ago I had extraordinary interest in other people,  literally everyone. Now this I admit was due to me being friendless and incredibly lonely at the time. Now i'm I suppose a bit spoiled in term of social circles, but I've lost something very profound, I don't listen so intensely anymore. I do listen and IMO very well but I don't care as much as I did before, nor do I enjoy it as much as before. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a very social individual and I normally spend a few hours a day "one on one socializing". But I often find myself  getting bored if I've known the person for a long time, it is as if we run out of things to talk about. This is especially the case if I hang out with them basically every day.

I have found a solution but it is horrible one, if you hang out with crazy neurotic people, you know the weed smoking, alcohol and sex addicted kind. You never really get that bored because there is always something crazy happening. But of course as i'm sure you can imagine, this is problematic in more ways than one.

Question

What's your take on boredom? How to be less bored in general?

My take on it, you're neurotic and so you want to get distracted and if something/someone is not distraction you enough, you get bored.

What bores me is that general people does not have interest in knowledge so they are dumber than me, previsible, that kills interest.

I'd die to have  a friend more intelligent than me, that teach me valuable things, but its so hard to find, they're only in the internet.

So yes, going out with a group of chimps to some sushi restaurant to talk about action movies, cars and drink alcohol to me is boring.

Thats why I only see my friends 1-2 times per month.

i find that the same for me. also when i hear convos of people talking about petty stuff, i really find that boring sometimes and I would just put my earphones on.

i also felt bored of some TV shows, especially, petty news, talk shows, low quality game shows, etc. but I love good series and movies that interests me :)

right now i have this luxury of the privelege to live in isolation, seriously. i am glad that i have passed the boredom of the first few months. how? by doing lots of distractions. lol. but now i am taking this opportunity to do consciousness work deeply.

I think Leo mentioned about this topic in one of his videos. While he didn't mention being bored, he did say that people look for distractions because that's how they cope with the emptiness inside them. In my opinion, boredom seems to be closely linked to this inner emptiness.

I could be wrong though. As some of you mentioned that when you become enlightened, the things that used to keep you from boring become boring themselves! So I have a feeling that whether you're empty or fulfilled inside actually dictates what you believe to be boring or not. It's probably all a matter of perspectives.
