An old family friend wants me to be a groomsmen at her wedding. I haven't spoken to her in years, the weddings in a month, I won't know anyone there and I have my own schedule (Goals)

- I have to give up two whole Saturdays for practice

- and an extra saturday for the actual wedding day

I already stated I'm not interested, am I being selfish?

Sounds like a "The more the merrier" kind of thing, it doesn't sound like it would be that big of a deal if you didn't go, especially since you have other things going on.

Since you have not spoken to her in years, it seems to me that you and the family member do not have a close relationship. Therefore, it would be socially acceptable imo to decline her suggestion if you have other plans. So I agree with @Truth

@Shakazulu I would suggest making a list of what you want in life, and looking at it every day. Then going to the wedding and experiencing how the opportunity to sync up keeps presenting itself. Universe is weird that way.   Or don't go. It's just a wedding.
