Addiction = Wanting Connection?

3 posts in this topic

Is this correct? Today I noticed with the use of awareness that whenever I practice an addiction I feel this sense of being lost after my urges are fulfilled. Like if you think you know where to go, but eventually you lead yourself to a dead end. Is this the craving for truth and oneness?

I just found this TED talk:

So connecting with people in real life is the cure? Please share your thoughts.

@Marinus I saw that TED talk some time ago.

As far as I understood, from their point of view mechanism of addiction works like that:

  1. You always want to be one with the world. And not in mystical way. Just to see people around you as your mates is good enough.
  2. But you don't feel that you are (important) part of ther world (both society and nature).
  3. And to escape that feeling of separation you develop an addiction.
  4. So, to cure your addiction - you should establish lost connections to the world (again, with society and nature).
  5. Once you feel your role in the greater scheme - you don't need to run away from yourself, so you can get free from addiction.

I just don't see it as THE ONLY possible addiction scenario. Yet, may be it is the most common in western society.

If you are in Spiral Dynamics - it is more likely just Blue (Lvl4) or Orange (Lvl5) addiction. Lvl4 is about connection and belonginess, while Lvl5 often feels lack of "spiritual" values, including belonginess.

On other Spiral levels there other addiction dynamics at play.

 Thank you, I will look into Spiral dynamics.
