College Needed For Entrepreneurship?

I want to pursue my passion and start my own business, although I have friends tell me that college is a trap and you don't need it to be successful in the business world. I'm still skeptical about this.. Is college really necessary to become a successful entrepreneur?

Clearly not, given the large swath of the rich entrepreneurs who quit college or never went in the first place.

College will teach you little about real-world business. In those four years you could learn 5x as much yourself and pocket six to seven figures to boot. That is, if you're motivated and hard working.

@Jonathan Cabrera My dad dropped out of college and started his business, he's a millionaire. Very possible, but you have to be extremely motivated and be willing to learn. I went to college and feel like I learned more working for free during my internship then my entire college career.

I think is always better to keep the balance between the two worlds of theoretical aspects and acquire real world experience and again keep blending this two variables.

While college is neither necessary nor sufficient, it's safe. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and a multitude of others quit college and are much - MUCH - more successful now.

However, if you want to leave college just because you don't like their way of teaching, or some other aspect of college, that's not going to work out well for you. I like staying in college because it allows me to build powerful habits that are going to be extremely valuable for me 3 years from now, when college is over. Also, college is cool to learn how to socialise, how to date, etc. Plus, what if I could teach a thing or two to my professors and friends, that's cool too. And also I like to tell myself that I can start doing the prep-work needed to build a successful business for 3 years during college, and then make a living of it. It's great because it puts all the pressure away, there's no need for anything, no victim-hood going on.

If you really don't want to college, you need to understand that you're going to have to be studying and learning for at least 3 hours a day and maybe try to make money, or get your parents to support you, there's a lot - a LOT - of hard work that needs to be done before you actually have some value to offer, and start making money. This is why I like to stay in college, I can start doing the thing, slowly, and easily, while keeping the resistance at bay.

Sum up : College is an opportunity to start building your business slowly, and easily. Unless you feel the need to spend a massive amount of time to learn even more than you currently do, stay there. Keep in mind that you still have plenty of time during this time, you're not working 40 hours a week, so you get plenty of time.

My ex gf and I spoke one night, she has bounced from job to job and thinks she needs school for everything in life.  We had a chat one night and i added up how much time and money it cost her to do that.  She is only 23, and i told her if you didnt go to school for all those hours and you had a job paying you just $10/hr, you could have paid off my house with cash.  $300k nice new beautiful home.  

I will never forget her eyes when i told her that.  Esp since it was all for nothing and she left that job soon after her schooling.  Then she went and did all this schooling to be a vet tech, she didnt even pass all of it and swore thats what she wanted to do with her whole life and it wouldnt change for nothing when i told her yes it would. Surely enough a month later she says you were right, i want to be a cop now.  Once again countless hours of time with school and home work just gone and wasted.  

So shes been doing all sorts of homework for being a cop and some type of science, she has not even passed the POST test yet and i dont think she even will be abe to, her math skills are sadly the worst i have ever seen by FAR.  Again she is wasting time (in my opinion).  I told her again that she will change her career again and again she says no i will not.  Some women are so suck in their head it drives me crazy. 

I am a high school drop out and i have nicer material things then anyone in my, or her fam.  In MY opinion school is mostly for people who really just want to learn something inside out.  Otherwise, to me, it is entirely a waste of time and money.  I have zero interest in home work when i can be using that time to keep finding new ways and methods for my business with cars.  I have another ex gf who is still going to school this is like seriously her tenth year of college for FBI type stuff.  Could you IMAGINE how much time and money she has invested in herself?!?  

Just think if she got in an accident and passed away today, ALLLLLLLLLL that time and money flushed down the drain.  That is how i look at it.  I dont feel i will live long enough and stay with a single career to make any schooling be worth it.  Financially i do better then every friend of mine, most likely because i am very smart with my dough.  It is all about investing in the right things at the right time.  I am currently wanting to add another source of income and just have a few diff sources of funds.  

If i could go back to my past i would dropped out sooner then 11th.  I have zero regrets with that.  Sorry for the life story rant.  I feel lke school is for people who are uncreative and need to plant a safe path and possibly for some bragging rights lol.  Some need it, and some dont.  Follow your hearts calling.  Maybe do some simple math with how much it would cost you with all the fees, home work hours etc.. Your time is obviously the most important thing of all.
