Could Sedona Method Be A Substitute For Meditation?

12 posts in this topic

I am seeing a therapist  who has told me not to meditate for 6 months because he thinks it is worsening my mental illness and neurosis. (I don't believe that)

In my given situation I feel like I am dying when I am not meditating daily. My negative emotions are creating reality distortions and unresourceful behaviours.

I am automatically inclined towards lowering my consciousness. I feel more urge to watch porn and playing video games. No-meditation is killing me basically.

What do I do?

One of the ways I think may help me is to do mindfulness with labelling for a good 10-20 minutes  everyday.

Another way that I am not sure about is doing the Sedona method release by keeping the eyes closed for 20 minutes.

Please share your ideas.

What explanation did he give?

He may be right. I don't know you but meditation is not for everyone. It's a mentally grueling process that can cause a lot of emotional turmoil.

@aurum Consciousness/awareness is my second top value in my values list. I love to meditate. It may be my life purpose.

I feel less negative emotions when I am meditating daily. I am more calm and my behaviour are more productive. Not meditating is only counter productive. My doc tells me to do yoga but not meditation. I love it too.

The therapist says that it is changing how my brain waves functions. He has his own doubts and he does not want to share it.

I feel more controlled by my emotions. My neurosis increases more. I feel empty most of the time.

I don't think I am one of those people who finds it hard to meditate. Initially it was difficult but after a few days I loved it. I still love it.

@Anirban657  Do whatever you want. You seem like you know the answer you want anyway. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

How long have you been meditating? Sometimes it can take time for the turmoil to start.

I had many emotional turmoils and purging has occurred many times. It has never created any serious problems.

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you should find a therapist that doesn't have such a distaste for meditation, but one that can talk you through any problems that may arise with it. Probably the best way to find one is to look for one that does hypnotherapy and regressions.

It has been documented that mindfulness meditation can worsen some neurotic disorders. However if you feel mentaly healthier from meditation I doubt this is true for you. I wonder why your therapist recomended you to take a break tho, if it dosnt have any negative impact on your neurosis. It is possible he has picked up something about you that you havnt picked up yourself. On the other hand it is also possible he is misinterpreting something you have told him.

It would no doubt be best to talk with him about this, explain why you feel meditation is good for you, and let him explain why he thinks its damaging for you. Be mindful that your own biases might give you an urge to reject his explanations out of hand and try to be aware if this happens.

I have decided that since the advice that the therapist gave me is wrong, I will resume meditation again. Many people in my past have told me to stop meditation. Ignorance is not just limited to common people but also doctors who have no idea about the benefits of meditation. They themselves can't meditate for 5 minutes and why should I listen to their advice.

They asked me to stop meditation some 20 days ago and I feel like I want to die. I hit my father twice, I shouted at my mother and sister and I spoke shit. All because I stopped meditating. Not meditating is the only thing that is worsening my condition. When the doctors saw that all my EEG and MR I scans were normal theye could not give me any medicines because I needed therapy but since my psychiatrist does not care about the difference I feel between feeling calm inside or feeling like shit, he wants to give me 6 months of unconsciousness.

I commit to a life long habit of meditation.

My initial impression is that your therapist is reasonably stupid. Reasonable, but still stupid.

Meditation has to do with letting everything be as it is. Neurosis has to do with resisting what is. Can you see how one can not lead to the other? Their definitions are contrary.

Of course when you meditate, a lot of shit will come up, but it won't be anything new, just shit that you have pushed down and you ran away with all your petty distractions.

You want to grow? Shut up, sit down and suffer through all the contractions and tensions that come up. Yes, it will hurt like shit, but then it will be easier and easier and you'll reach higher levels of energy and positive emotions. Release those, don't resist anything.

You get as many results from Meditation as the time you invest into it.

Don't expect this to be easy.

No.  Practice both.  They do different things.  Meditation has nothing to do with Sedona.

Sedona is a tool to bust though internal resistance:

1. Could I do X?

2. Would I do X if I could?

3. When will I do X?

4.  Visualizing starting to do X.

5.  Allow yourself to start to move.  You will!  This is the magic of Sedona.  That resistance will give way and you'll start to flow automatically into action.  Allow this to happen and ride the wave as long and as deeply as you can.  This is called flow or being in the zone.  When the wind is at your back exploit the heck out it.  Bam bam bam, get it done.

Why are you considering Sedona method? Don't you think some kind of cbt would most likely be more effective?
