Politics?

12 posts in this topic

Do I need to study politics for personal development as to better understand and have a comprehensive understanding of the ego and history and also so I can understand if politics is really neccesssary for society to function and if so which idea works (Socialism/Conservatism etc...)? Or is it just pointless to research this topic at all?

Thankyou :)

Politics is essential when you're working to influence it for the better. Whether it's to vote wisely, to rally for a cause or donate money to the right place — you need an understanding of that. What affects politics can also affect everyday life — including you.

Especially if it has to do with your life purpose.

Personal development isn't just after all developing yourself to become better — the best ones tend to include developing yourself to become better for others.

And that. . .

That changes things.

I think understanding politics can be useful for personal growth and even more to become an influence in whatever way in the world. But for the sake of personal development, I'd try to focus on the psychology behind certain political processes. Don't conceptualize and see people as either "right-wing" or "left-wing" or label a mass of people as the name of the country as if they all were in favor of their government. This kind of thinking imo creates all the bullshit we see in today's politics and news. People not being able to differenciate and look at things objectively, with understanding and compassion,  But rather putting people and movements into boxes and demonizing/glorifying them, while bashing people with a different opinion.

I personally like to see the study of politics as a study of psychology,  But on a larger scale.

Politics not so much.

History, absolutely!

All you need to study to understand politics is Spiral Dynamics. It's the most accurate political model I've ever seen.

And the other key to understanding politics is: corruption, corruption, corruption. It's all corrupt to hell. The corruption is so bad it's become legalized.

@Light Lover  I think you need to understand persuasion and psychology in order to understand politics.
I would recommend reading the following books:
Robert Cialdini - Influence
Daniel Kahnemann - Thinking Fast and Slow
Robert Cialdini - PreSuasion
Scott Adams - Win Bigly (Comes out in November)

After reading these books you will have a completly new sense of politics and the human mind. The last one will be especially helpful to understand Trump. It will be the best book to understand him. (The best currently released book is probably his own: The Art of the Deal).

Pretty much what Leo said.  It's about where the rubber meets the road.  People seek out and abuse power.  Every system is corruptible, either in terms of financial gain or just the power to commit depravity.

you definitely need to know about politics in personal scale in order to know what is better decision and applying what policy to your work and relation and plans would work the most for you, also surviving in the society need political skills I recommend you to read 48 laws of power by robert green
but also be aware that most politic theory are Machiavellian and can be categorized in red stage of civilization your goal has to be in the state green orange or turquoise so be aware of what it is that your learning its mostly feeds the ego
but about the politics in the bigger scale I think its a matter of interest I personally love politics , you should have an overall understanding but I dont think its necessary for your growth to know everything about it, although some important skills are mutual in both such as systems thinking
my opinion is that social democracy is the best way to govern just look at countries in Scandinavia and common wealth countries and some Europeans who have social democratic systems they are more fair and civil right have been recognized and the wealth is redistributed so viva social democracy

Do you think and government in the world consists of politicians that are green or above on average?

I doubt it, but I think it's an interesting question.

For example, isn't the government of Brunei very altruistic towards its population, no tax etcetera.

Isn't it so, yes or no?
