Should I Go (back) To College

6 posts in this topic

I want to make this quick.

I'm 22 years old. I would've graduated college as of a month ago. I only went to school my Freshman year in college at 2 different community colleges. Never even finished either semester. I'm currently taking Leo's Life Purpose Course. However, I want to know, should I go back to college? If so, what should my focus be? What should my target be? What would I be trying to get out of it?

Nobody can answer these questions for you.

Don't ask for a step by step manual on how to live your life from strangers who know completely nothing about you. What is your life purpose? What are you passionate about? These questions need to be answered first. Everybody has their own path, their own intuition, their own vision of life an goals. What works for me, might not work for you.

That being said, it is generally good to have an education. It's not really about the information you get but its about going through this period when you are not burdened by anything and can focus on what is important. Just make sure you go study something that is meaningful to you. Don't listen to what you "should study" because it earns more or less. Do what is most natural to you.

@kieranperez most likely not, because if it was a solution that you need, there would be no room for hesitation

what is the reason you quit college? lack of discipline or the major didn't resonate with you?

Do what your heart desires just remember to never let schooling interfere with your education ;)

@Michael569 is right on, nobody can make these important life choices for you. Taking your life into your own hands is liberating.

Having said that, I've been in college for a few years, and as far as I can see, EVERYTHING that a professor can teach you, at least up until getting your bachelor's, is available online or in a book for free. Also, the emphasis in school is memorization and reciting, which isn't needed in most lines of work you'll truly be passionate about. Having degree is like having a sponsorship or a brand-name, and it'll get you in the door in some high-paying professions.

If you want to work in the corporate world, get a degree. If you have a vision for your future and have the resources, knowledge, and drive to accomplish it, you probably don't need a degree.
