What Beliefs Do Psychedelics Destabilize?

8 posts in this topic

The idea that outer seeing is illusory?  Outer seeing is in contrast to inner seeing.  Inner seeing is mental.  Outer seeing is done with the eyes.  Or is it that ordinary visuals are no more part of mystical reality than drug-induced visuals.  Existentially, they are the same, no?

I'm not a drug user so I need some help with this.  Maybe one day I will do more.  I've done shrooms a few times.  So, I get the idea of a hallucination.  Also with shrooms you get that deep feeling of love and sensitivity.  That tripped me out more than the visuals.  This was like six years ago the last time I did it, but I was kind of a masculine guy then, and the fact that I got so vulnerable was very off-putting to me.  I wasn't prepared for that.  Also I had some demons that I wasn't ready to come out.  I'm more in touch with my loving side today than I was then.  So, I've changed a lot.  But I just wanted to say that I have experimented a few times with pretty high amounts of shrooms, and I paid the price with some bad trips too.

But ok.  Here's the question.  You saw some visuals, so what?  What does that do for you with enlightenment?  What beliefs are shaken or reinforced?

@Joseph Maynor All beliefs. Hahaha.  Just kidding.

  1. Only ONE path is true. Rest is noise
  2. God is beauty, rest is Ugly

@Joseph Maynor Do shrooms again now that you have incorporated recent insights. Make the trip theme letting go of Joseph. Do something physical and vision in a repetitive act of letting him go. I think the timing is good for you, potential insights wise.

@Joseph Maynor Watch some of Leo's trip reports the stuff that he talks about learning from tripping is truly mind blowing. In this video he talks about some of his beliefs that were shattered.

@Joseph Maynor If you trip with an intention of investigating your beliefs, and the shrooms respond in kind, you will probably realise that most, if not all of them, are not actually true in any way.

For example, I used to really love maths and science. On shrooms I saw that these things can't even come close to explaining reality, and that ALL the theory was ultimately groundless. Even the times tables. Shrooms unceremoniously ripped away my emotional investment in these subjects.

“I think of going to the grave without having a psychedelic experience is like going to the grave without ever having sex. It means that you never figured out what it is all about." - Terence McKenna

@Joseph Maynor It's beyond words. you need to just do it. it will change your life. no more questions about what psychedelics feels like, they cannot be answered in this forum, you have to go do it, and yes you are missing out on ALOT in MY opinion.

And they are just unbelievabe tools for self growth and spiritual growth.
