Strengths Identifying Problem.

3 posts in this topic

Hey guys. I find it difficult to figure out my strengths. I have invested 4 years into programming and now I have a nice desktop job, but something rubs me the wrong way. I don't feel fulfilled and that is making me very ineffective at my job. I value beauty and strength, but cannot think of any particular strengths that separate me from the rest. Any advice?

@Andrey This one I can really recognize in myself, currently i'm studying IT. Perhaps it would it could serve you to try something else, perhaps something that deals with more people. Not saying you should quit your career but, maybe there is something else you could try on the weekends if you have time to spare. Try to discover what it is the makes your work rub you the wrong way and possibly try to modify it that to improve the situation.

But what can make a difference is how you utilize them. Explore the variations of using your strengths. Sometimes a combination of strengths can produce an uncommon strength which may seem separate from the rest. A simple example is being loving and being tough (tough-love). Another is being honest and ethical (integrity). Then again, a strength can be broken down, such as integrity into honesty and ethical.

A new strength can be harvested by using a strength(s) in a new direction. For instance, many people have a weakness towards conformity just to save face. Yet to apply one's strengths of individuality and imagination one could start becoming a maverick (nonconformist to the norm). Many a maverick is found behind new ideas and approaches to doing things.
