About To Go To College, What Kind Of Career Should I Shoot For That Goes Hand In Hand With Self-actualization?

4 posts in this topic

Or really, what examples are there of careers that can go along with Leo's teachings? I thought of game design but it feels as though I'd be contributing to the world negatively by making more games for people to mindlessly enslave themselves to. Experimental psychology seemed interesting to me, but i'm not entirely sure what I'd like to study about the mind. Could anyone with some experience in this please help?

@CarlosV  What are you interested in? What makes you passionate?  Which activity helps you forget about the world outside?

People around here are wired differently and everyone sees something else as important. It has to be something that deeply resonates within you only, nobody else can give it to you on a silver platter.

It may also help you to take the Life Purpose Course.

When I finish high school I want to get into Psychology. It doesn't have the spiritual and several other aspects in it that personal development offers but it is still a step into the direction of helping others. This makes me really happy.

Helping people with poor self esteem, a chaotic mind, etc. If I know how to help them and see that it makes changes, for me almost nothing will be more fulfilling than helping people in that way.

@CarlosV Take a gap year if you are not clear enough on what you want to do. Nothing bad about it. What is bad though is trying figure out what you want to do WHILE IN COLLEGE, on your parents money and things like that.

You need to do a lot of introspection. We can't tell you what to choose. We also don't know you and thus we can only give you blind advice. Take a week off with no internet or other distractions and define your goals, strengths, weaknesses etc. Assess yourself. Take some personality tests to get more info about how you function.

Also, read this book: https://www.amazon.com/Drop-Out-Get-Schooled-Thinking/dp/099744102X

  • The author does not try to bring arguments for not going to college. This book is meant to get you more clarity on your path. I would consider it a must read for you.

Good luck!
