When I Am Happy I Dont Feel Like Self Improving...

7 posts in this topic

It seems that if i am in a happy, funny mood my mind does not seem to want to "be active more" and just want to enjoy the present moment

But then I become guilty since i am not "doing something creative " or am not reading a book on philosophy ...and that i am joking around with my people.

Can you reserve 1 hour per day to do personal development work on a routine schedule?  Find a good time to do it like in the morning and do it at the same time everyday on a routine.  Focus on cultivating the habit, the routine for now.  You don't need to rush this personal development stuff.  This is going to be a life-long journey for you.  Just focus on getting the habit wired-into your life for now.  A small dose at the same time, same place everyday is probably what is best for you.  Baby step it.

I think it's best described like : "when I'm in a good mood, I don't even worry about things in have to change in my life"

And not that you don't have the desire to change.

It's good that you don't worry sometimes, over other times. Keep doing that and you'll find the motivation to do whatever you like.

Yes and that is one reason why you should value the ability to feel 'negative emotions'.

Going from negative emotions to happy emontions to negative emotions again is a closed loop that keeps you moving forward.

@Joseph Maynor I was lazy this whole time and guess i should at least take a little time out of my life to continue this journey . Will do

@egoeimai Thanks for that more accurate phrasing! :)

@SFRL so wait... even if you go long enough into the journey..you are bound to feel negative emotions...?

I dont know but what I do know is that nothing in life is a fixed state. People can have a perfect little life and 3 months from now that's all in barrels. At the same time everything can seem to go against you but next year everything is going a lot better. Economic depressions don't last forever, droughts dont last for ever, and unhappiness dont last forever they are all cycles.

I was reading something the other day that in past eras unhappiness and suffering has always been seen as a part of life. And even been celebrated. We are pretty much the first generation that thinks that if you are not very happy all the time there is something wrong with us.
