Can I Use Self Inquiry And Enlightenment Exercises As I Go About My Daily Life?

5 posts in this topic

I figured that one of my problems with my path to enlightenment is how the feeling of peace I feel during self inquiry doesn't last throughout the whole day. That's why I wonder if I can actually do this while going through my day. Somehow like how mindfulness does with examples like mindful eating and mindful brushing. I'll still do regular self inquiry work of course. But is this a good idea? Does this practice only work when I'm fully concentrating on it alone?

Yes of course, mindfully observe the body-mind with the knowing mind that what you observe cannot be you.

I notice that when I practice meditation a lot I find myself automatically going into meditation mode while walking around, or doing dishes, just doing daily activities. So yes this is perfectly normal and natural to slip into meditative mode during ordinary life, I'm sure it's healthy too. :)

An even better idea is to try some psychedelics and that same feeling will stay with you for an even longer period of time. ;)

No, you can do this whenever you want to.
You can and you should practice mindfullness every time it is necessary, which is all the time.
Don't buy into your thoughts, watch them everytime they come, don't go with them, just look at them.

It's all good and dandy to meditate and self-inquire, but if in your daily life you're never present, how could you expect anything to change at all ?

Spirituality is not a temporary activity, it's a way of living.
You actually have to be present, not just on the cushion, but at your work, in the traffic, when you make love to your wife, when you play with your kids, when you exercice, when you browse the web, when you listen to music, whatever you're doing, do it with your total presence.

That doesn't mean having no thoughts, that means being aware of the thoughts, not being them.
Once you realize that, once you know that nothing can change the fact that the present is the only thing there is.
You will awaken no matter what happens to you, because whatever happens is an expression of you, it will only fasten the process ...

And God in them
