Is It Ok If I Close My Eyes And Meditate?

5 posts in this topic

I find it distracting when I keep my eye open while meditating

And what's the difference?

Of course you can have your eyes closed! I find when I have my eyes closed it's a lot easier to fall asleep, depending on how tired I am, that's really the only difference.

It's way easier to get in deep meditation with your eyes closed since you won't be distracted by the attachments of the things in your sight. I think only advanced meditators can get in a really deep state with their eyes open. It's best to have as little sensual input as possible for beginners and intermediates.

I prefer to keep my eyes closed. I tried having my eyes open for a while, but found myself getting too distracted by whatever in front of me. Even a blank white wall might be distracting, all the small details becoming more interesting after a while - not to mention what happens when a spider or a fly walks into my field of vision.

I think both ways are fine. One argument for meditation with open eyes is, that you also have your eyes open when you don't meditate. So it might be easier this way that meditation and "normal" life become one. When I don't move my body I can come as deep in meditation with open eyes as I can with closed eyes.
