I feel like reality/God has ''unfair'' prefrences of qualia, it's a paradox...?

18 posts in this topic

This question has confused me a lot lately. Please don't ignore this question, it may seem it hasn't any validity but I from my POV it's very clear they have and maybe you feel the same. So for example, why I see pink right now and not any other colour (qualia)? Why I live this moment out of infinite others I could live? there must be a hierarchy of moments that will appear, why this one and not any other ? (what's the ''algorithm'' of the appearance of moments and why they are like that?) If every colour is the same (although different in a way) , why would God choose this one instead of a different one? what make this colour so special? There are finite number of colours, why they construct themselves in a certain way, being ''chosen'' when any other colour could be there? To make matters even worse, what if there are infinite amount of qualia of colours that could potentially exist, what would be the mechanism that would choose a specific colour instead of any other different colour?

To make things even worse, why there is an assymetry in what I see on the right side and the left side of my visual perception? Why I couldn't see things in the right side that are in the left and vice versa (assymetrical or symetrical doesn't matter)? How could consciousness pick one and favour it when it could achieve the ''same'' experience from the opposite side? Could it be that determinism is an illusion and God is picking something while it could have picked something different? I hate free will , I dread it, but it seems to me that there is no other way for this to happen other than God having free will (randomness).

It's like consciousness picks qualia instead of others with the same qualities for no reason. Another thing that has no reason behind it, it's an illogical thing, a paradox. Paradoxes are everywhere. What do you think about all these? Have you ever thought of these things before? Do you have other things that seem to have no reason yourself?

Most importantly, how can this be the case with qualia being picked instead of infinite others when they have nothing special more than any other colour?

Of course I am talking about colours, but going meta the bigger picture is not about colours, it's about everything, every qualia, every experience.

edit: imagine you were God, and you had to pick between blue, pink , and green. Why would you choose any of these instead of any other? God has no prefrences, and if it has, then what would be the mechanism to choose one instead of another? if you think about it there is no single mechanism that can choose one if they are all the same.

Maybe reality is infinite and has infinite possibilities to be anything. But in order for you to feel like you’re experiencing something it needs to be finite, you can’t experience infinity.

If everything is appearing at once, all the finite experiences are happening simultaneously, means god has no preference, it just happens so that your particular finite experience is one of the infinite, the particular way it is.

@Sugarcoatthat's so true but then the question becomes , how a mechanism is even possible like that?

take programming algorithms for example. They literally wouldn't be able to function if the human programer weren't biased towards a choice. Even when programming seems like it shows a random choice, it actually doesn't, it just picked the specific number from the clock and make it appear as it was random.

So yes, you are absolitely right, if everything appeared at once, well how could infinite things appear at once? they couldn't. But that doesn't solve the mystery of how could then God has a choice to pick anything instead of any other thing. It's a total mystery, a totaly can't happen thing that actually happens. :S I am so confused

@Never_give_up I think your question has a kind of absolute answer and a relative answer. On the relative level if we ask things like why is grass green and not some other color? Well because it has chlorophyll. Why does it have chlorophyll and not some other substance? Because *insert some mechanism* and then you could trace it all back to the Big Bang . So that’s on the relative level, it’s cause and effect, everything being connected, all the appearances being connected and affecting each other. For example if you drop a glass on the floor it will break. Why it’s that way and not some other way? Because on relative level the appearances work that way and can be traced back to big bang. But then question remains why big bang appeared and not some other happening out of all the infinite possibilities? Well it’s one of the infinite possibilities, so it must happen. Why are we here to experience the consequence of that and not something else? On relative level maybe your soul is evolving and this is one step on the evolution, so it chose this life for you.

On absolute level I can’t answer why are you , you, why are you experiencing this in particular. My guess would be it’s random. Basically this could be anything.

@SugarcoatI understand what you are saying and indeed it could be random and not deterministic but then how could there be any mechanism that makes an experience random? Determinism make sense, something was meant to happen this way. But randomness can't have any mechanism, cause why would an experience or whatever qualia be chosen instead of any other?

It's like, the more we try to answer these questions then more questions appear and even worse, they have no answers. :S:S Everytime I try to answer these questions confusion is the only state I get, it makes me want to quit inquiry

Maybe randomness doesn’t have mechanism. Some say there’s nothing behind what’s happening creating it

Why is it important for you to know? I like the questioning aspect, but I’m at peace with not knowing

That's the Mystery of it.

You are asking questions that are too detailed to really answer.

Rather than trying to nitpick God like a scientist, you just want to realize it and Be in the mystery of it.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

@Sugarcoatbut it doesn't make sense from something to happen if it hasn't a mechanism (and yet it happens?).  I don't know why it's so important to me, but since I was a kid 5-6 years of age, I was intrigued by reality and something in me always told me that knowing reality is the highest thing that a being can do. I will contemplate a little more and if I don't find answers I will stop, cause health is priority and not finding answers make me feel really bad.

@Leo Guraso I think it's better if I stop trying to understand everything and just experience this Mystery, this life, cause that's the point of life.

@UnbornTaoI contemplate so much it became unhealthy and thus these questions. I think I will stop being so obssesed with  these questions and concentrate on other things in life. I will do some more contemplation though, just in case I find something and if it is too much for me I will stop.

I trip when my health is at its worse.

You've got to want truth so badly, that even poor health won't stop you.

Understanding is great. Just apply it to the right questions.

You can waste your life trying to know how many ants are crawling around Africa and miss the bigger picture.

I will guess consciousness dosent specifically pick the qualia it always has infinite prerecorded constructions. God, way more advanced, the qualia it picks before the colour pink is the world its going too. The pink is already constructed in the world its going too and it made the constructions forever ago and there are infinite amounts, it wont see infinite amounts  of worlds at one time, it will see them appear randomly scattered and unordered. Like random thoughts fully constructed first person worlds fly by it.

The world is defined by its colour so it sees a pink video playing and looks at it closer and the 'pink' is the qualia of the world itself 'the point of view of an entity wading on a tube in a cream soda river'.Colour dosent exist outside your mind on the object. Colour dosent exist in objective reality so its entirely a first person experience.

I was looking at the sun behind my eyes one afternoon, I was looking and focus randomly blackish marks appear I just start making up what these random various in light look like in my constructing mind. A dog, a monster, a river, a ladder. Suddenly tiny 3d worlds in balls start to form. I look in one of the balls I see the first person view of a man flying a hover craft 50 feet off the ground of an alien planet. It looks like rib like structures are coming out of the ground and hes flying up and around them and he comes to what looks like a station and gets out of his hovercraft and goes into the building.

Why did I see that specifically? It was just one of Gods worlds, and this one you have gotten mixed up and merged with ,cause it made you forget you are God and think you are a character in a light story, asking why is this happening in this light story. If I was fully focused I could have went into the hovercraft story and lived there and it would be as real as this life.

I don’t know the answer. On a relative level if we investigate reality (like scientists do) then everything got a mechanism, but they aren’t able to get to the root mechanism, it just keeps going, mechanism behind every mechanism so on. That’s how reality SEEMS to work.

But let’s say there is only what is immediately appearing, then maybe what’s appearing has no substance, it’s empty, just looks solid, then maybe it has no actual mechanism behind it, it’s just appearing by itself. So it could be anything but in this moment it is by randomness appearing for you the particular way it’s appearing

I don’t know this I’m just theorizing. I wanna do psychedelics

@Never_give_up

Yes, it is tricky. I presume it wouldn't be a matter of formulating an answer, but rather of having insight.

Experiential contemplation is different. It's like: "When all my notions and beliefs about the matter are set aside, what is there as experience itself?"

Reality cannot be defined or it can be defined using all definitive words. The word 'Mystery' is one of them.

What you know leaves what you don't know and what you don't know is all there is.

I really can't conceive the paradox "wasting your life" with the fact that all is ONE. Maybe I want the notion of "wasted life" to not be real. I have been wasting it for so long and It is just now that I'm starting to go out of the wheel of innecesary suffering. But mind and body keeping the score (i'm 26)

You just have to accept that there is a reason to everything but you may not understand it yet and be OK with it having faith that there is a reason behind it all and if I can't get it that's OK just knowing that there are reasons is enough for now.
