Charisma on Command Scammed

14 posts in this topic

A lesson in gaslighting and manipulation.

I really resonate with Charlie's experience here. I must admit I can be easy to gaslight as I try to take 100% responsibility for everything in my life, or give people the benefit of the doubt. But sometimes people take advantage of that habit.

Luckily he got most of the money back.

Be careful who you do business with, and trust your gut if you sense something wrong with them. Evil people can look and sound the same as good people. Judge people based on their actions, not just their character.

Glad he shared that, it's a good lesson. I relate a bit with the toxic side of feeling like an underdog and not relating to people better off than me and being resentful of them. I've worked on it and never scammed people but I've been more transactional and not as empathetic as I should've been.

Never trust a crypto bro. Crypto people are low-lives.

Why did he need a friend to manage his crypto account, If he had just bought some Bitcoin and Ethereum and let it sit there, he could have just done that himself LOL. But whatever, dubious business practices attracting other dubious business practices is not surprising to me in the slightest

@Leo Gura But you mentioned liking Bitcoin? What is the nuance and distinction here?

Personally, I see Bitcoin as a commodity that is structurally distinct from the rest of the shitcoins, which are more like (bad) securities.

I don't think many people are nuanced or well-researched enough to make that distinction?

Let's not be mean about it. Charlie is not a dubious character. I met him once long ago when I applied to work as his video editor and he's a very genuine guy. He was simply naive and a victim of a manipulator.

Bitcoin is good. But the people who chase crypto for profit are evil.

120k not worth stealing from Charlie.

Charlie probably has tens of millions of dollars. And if you are trusted by him, you should probably be earning good money from him.

If he needed to open an old account with $10k in Bitcoin and cash out his 401k to finance his deal then clearly not.

I've been getting more into the bible lately and there's a great part on how the devil tempted Jesus in the desert and the three ways had to do with magical thinking, turning stones to bread, throwing yourself off a cliff and levitating to safety and gaining power through no virtuous means which all mirror crypto thinking.

I'll keep saying though that our currently financial system and crypto has a lot of potential to ameliorate that so I think it's a bit foolish to discredit the whole field as a whole.

The main value proposition of blockchains is transparency and immutability. If our governments embraced this technology or were pushed to it would stop a lot of the corruption as they would need to openly share what they spend and on what. A lot of the finance and banking system is why people are poor too as it's basically a complicated way to devalue their labor and increase the value of assets.
