Is society becoming less sane?

In the other hand today there is too much diversion and individualism that intensifies loneliness, and too little feeling of collective responsibility what makes the disorder worse.

Absolutely but in my opinion the collective responsibility was negative, like: if you're not a responsible and valid individual for society, you're a piece of shit. Get married and have children, even if deep down you dream of being a drag queen.

Now there's no such obligation; there's freedom, which easily turns into superficiality, empty fun, and stupidity, but which gives the possibility of the true responsibility of being human among humans, not conditioned by the outside world but real, internal.

We see this in music, art, family conversations even.

20 years ago there were high quality songs you could see that people invested a lot of effort in, but today each new song is a combination of gimmickly sounds effects with much less depth, the words are shallow and sloganish, and the singer is actually half singing and half talking a bunch of nonsense.

Singers who are less talented like Taylor Swift get an unproportional popularity wereas singers who are much better then her goes under the radar. People get catched up by gimmicks and whatever catches the eyes, without further thinking.

There are tons of brilliant musicians and artists floating around. You won't find them on the radio, you have to dig.

Mainstream music has always been subpar.

Beauty is subjective but here are a few of my current favs

Current mood

Oh, you don't know me, 'cause I'm from a different age
And you can't see me, 'cause I live in a different age
And you could hurt me, but you wouldn't know what to say
But you should believe me, our dreams are all the same
Like a life without love
God, that's just insane
But a love without life
Well, that just happens every day
And I wish I could change, but I'll probably just stay the same
And I wish you could sing along
But this song is a joke, and the melody I wrote, wrong

Oh, you can't hear me 'cause I sing to a different age
And you should fear me 'cause I believe in a different age
But I live in the city that lives in a different age
Oh, I live in a city that lives in a different age
Where all the poets are writing memoirs
And I'm still singing songs
Oh, all the poets are writing memoirs
And I'm still singing songs
They say, "There's nothing left for you here, kid
Why don't you just go home?"
They say "This city is useless
Oh, we've already done it all"
Oh, all the poets are writing memoirs
And I'm still singing songs
And I wish you could sing along
But this song is a joke, and the melody I wrote, wrong!

There are more echo chambers because of people becoming obsessed with social media. It's a more enhanced form of what used to be local gossip, where "everyone knows what everyone else is doing" in a small town or in the workplace, except you can now expand it to a global scale. Everyone thinks everyone "should" behave a certain way or believe a certain thing, and everyone tries to change everyone else's mind and gets neurotic when they can't do it, and you have human nature in action.  Every "echo chamber" is so convinced they have all the answers, when they are varying degrees of neurotic.  Doesn't matter if it's democratic, autocratic, left, right, or whatever. Perhaps some philosophies are more enlightened than others of course... go up the spiral dynamics scale.

The addition of forums, subreddits, etc. enhances the echo chambers and enhances the neuroticism because now you have people getting a single perspective and not seeing the shades of grey that are a normal part of a functioning society. Less acceptance of what is, more raw understanding of human nature and judging it or being in denial of our animal biology and programming... knowledge is power as long as it's used constructively... excess knowledge or knowledge combined with neuroticism can backfire.

When looking outside the social media sensationalism at real people around me, most people are decent enough. Flawed, but decent. They do the best they can with our genetic makeup.

I just assume that everyone online is an insane person. Especially people on this forum. Perfectly contextualizing everything that happens online. I'm the exception of course.

I'm most certainly neurotic. lol...  stuck with these genetics and that limbic/reptilian brain after all. Most people who frequent online forums have a few screws loose compared to "normies" ... probably a higher percentage of autistic spectrum individuals such as myself than the majority of the population also.

Go on to Twitter and just look at how inanely mean spirited everyone is and tell me they are not crazy. To be fair, this forum could be worse.

Most people who seem normal and do normal things are more insane than you, but their fear of not being accepted is so strong that it keeps them functioning in a seemingly normal way. If you push them and see what's underneath, you'll be surprised.

If you are dumb enough and your intensity is low enough, you can adapt your foot to the shoe without it being unbearable.
