Does LSD have an expiry date?

17 posts in this topic

My parents are away for vacation for some few days. So i was thinking i want to do some LSD. The thing is that I have some LSD tabs stored away for maybe a year now. So just curious if anything bad will happen if i take some old LSD tabs? Maybe i can start with a low dose.

Worst thing that can happen is they've gone inactive, even that is unlikely.

I had my LSD tabs just lying around, not even properly air sealed for longer than year. They're still super potent.

Drugs don't expire.

That's some bullshit pharma invented to keep you buying more.

Wrong, LSD-25 is not a stable molecule. It is especially sensitive to UV light and O2. Blotters are known to maintain potency the longest (more so than liquid). Buy blotter, store in a dark mylar bag, and put a deoxidizer in the same bag as the LSD. it will last for years.

If you have liquid, make sure it gets zero exposure to chlorine. Even small amounts can affect it. Also, make sure the seal is tight. The last thing you want is for the alcohol to evaporate and for your dose to be more potent than you expected. This does happen.

I just did some LSD that was stored in a mylar bag for three years, I could not tell a loss in potency.

That's what I said.

@Leo Gura No, you said they don't expire.

What I'm saying is that they lose potency when exposed to O2, Chlorine, and UV light.

Obviously if you throw them in a volcano they expire. Jesus.

You're just trying to win an argument without actually acknowledging the difference between what I'm saying and you're saying.

If the OP knew about O2, chlorine, and UV sensitivity then you and I would be saying the same thing.

But, we both know that ain't the truth.

You mean when they are dead? That would be about 30-40 years give or take.

This is a very serious commitment. Do not do this halfheartedly. Best to take it when you put your all into it—your intentions must be crystal clear.

Are you really ready? This is a date with the cosmos. Say YES and do not look back!

Yes, don’t put it in sunlight. It will expire real fast that way.

Super ill informed.

They do expire because of forming of related substances over time as guided by ICH limits calculated from daily exposure of the drug calculated from clinical trials and the toxicity of the related substance. If the related substance is toxic, the limit is super low. I was shocked to learn that a new genotoxic impurity was identified of an IV generic medicine (after years of production).

I work on this field and pharma would like it deregulated, then you can just produce cheaper and not care about the product safety. Hello, Leo!?

Narcotics also have Related substances which I have very little idea and I don't want to know. Because it's not controlled in the drug cartels therefore there is no awareness.

Drugs do expire and after the end of shelf life are generally not recommended to be used as per the international guidelines. About the toxicity, maybe, because of the beroucracy and inability to reliably check in many different conditions and in-use conditions as you have to test every condition and timepoint, not just the ICH general stabilty for 3 years or less, the spec limits could be wider, I agree. But it's not because pharma invented to keep you buying more. I would agree if you would say that not regulating prophylactic self-health-care, funding for programs and initiatives that promote healthy lifestyle and prevention instead of mass fast food production etc. as they bank on sick people. But not because of the expiry date of the drug, pharma companies want to extend the shelf life as much as possible, then think about it, why it's as it is there? Could be that the impurities grow to specification limit over these years, no?

Not only that, Leo is wrong here. The degradants of the main component metabolize differently and can be harmful, sometimes even mutagenic, genotoxic etc., nitrozamines is something everyone wants to avoid. So it's not only the loss of potency.
