Meditation is hell: every time I get in state; I get good ideas

I sit down to quiet my mind… and suddenly my brain serves up its BEST material:

  • A genius solution to that work problem
  • A life-changing epiphany about my childhood

It’s like my mind panics at silence and starts yelling, “Wait! Don’t waste this productivity! Here’s a TED Talk idea!”

I know meditation is supposed to be about ‘letting go,’ but how do you let go when your brain won’t shut up?

These things helping me: I keep a notebook nearby or do voice memo.

It is really a luxury problem but at the same time very annoying being in a split

Yes. It's extra bad for people who are high-ambition and highly creative.

Meditation is not about this, this may be an aspect of it but its not about letting go, shutting the mind down and that sort of thing.. Meditation is a process, it can encompass many Possibilities, it depends on what Your intentions are, what do You want out of it, and there are many techniques.. I don't like to use the word Meditation, its like the word God, its has too many social and thought implications with pre defined definitions of it, some say sitting with eyes closed in cross legged positions means your meditating but that has nothing to do with it.. Results from a meditation will get You what You say above, more creativity, more clarity and such comes to the surface, that is good benefit from it...

In my book there is concentration meditation which is about cleaning your mind and just being empty minded for a while, and there is insight meditation by which you concentrate on a topic.

I'm doing concentration meditation every day and it is very hard to stay in concentration without getting insights.

A wandering mind is good. It will go to places where you're stuck and by shining the light of awareness on it you can resolve it or gain insight/illumination into it. Layer by layer pealing the structure of the ego so that the rivers of life could flow again. It's a strange art of letting the mind wonder and not paying attention to it at the same time.

Mind does what mind does. You have no say. It's not you. You are wrong to identify as body mind. Meditation is sitting with true you. If something useful arises in false mind or if you're blessed true mind, interrupt the meditation and take the win. No harm for meditation to be stop start. That's life. Be flexible. Do your best. Often phone rings, I stop a minute. Then back to stillness.

Meditation is poker/blackjack against God. The more you meditate the better deal you get.

You are always meditating. The thing is you are not AWARE when you start thinking, you get lost in thinking and so you forget yourself/awareness. Try to see the exact moment you get into thinking, and see the magic start happening.

Sometimes when I come out of a hypnagogic state, especially after having almost gone into a lucid dream/sleep paralysis, I feel like I have entered a super state of intelligence and unlocked the mysteries of the universe lol.

Meditation is about attention and being aware. It's ok if you are thinking all the time, but are you aware? That's the only question.

Can you think only when you want? Meditation is also about self-mastery, if you want to look at it that way.

So true.

When Im in a more passive phase of life I love meditation.

But in highly creative phases... man, is tough haha

I just keep it to 15 minutes to keep the habit.

Meditation is about non attachments you coming up with crazy ideas is attachment coming to the front. The purpose of meditation is to enter no mind so you can de attach. Imagine you died and were in the void and you were coming up with these juicy insights but it didn't matter cause you couldn't do them anymore. This would cause you immense mental suffering while in the void. Ignore them thats not what meditation is for its for reaching your purest form nothing so you don't struggle when you die.in order to respawn you need no mind for several days.

@AION I’ve been meditating consistently an hour a day for two months now.

if it makes you feel any better know that probably 90% of my time meditating I am thinking bout some girl or a problem etc. 

I’ve still gotten really good results (specifically with focus ability) 

 

stick with it, maybe try guided. But also know that your experience is normal dawg.


maybe you can label your thoughts as just “thinking” or “noise” and get back to medutation.

 

rarley do the epiphanies during meditation actually hold value, they just seem super useful in the moment but in retrospect it’s procrastination (at least for me)

Yeah word, you can do a meditative contemplation session instead. Orrr you could look at different meditation techniques like "do nothing" (where you don't "try" to quiet your mind, you just allow everything and absorb every thought and idea without getting too warped into them and just keep the body still).

Generally just remember that it's best to trust the guru to do the practise for you

One wants to be Meditative, which is Life is lived at Ease, not easy but at Ease, no Stress Response happens, there are no Stressful situations, there is your reaction to it that causes the Stress Response, living at Ease is absence of this, that changes everything, and is Meditative! 

Meditation as most know it just the training to allow this to be our natural state always, which is how it should be, not how it is today for most!
