What can we do to stop the far right?

Unfortunately, nobody realizes how corrupt the system is. People don't know where to find good sources of information.

The news only reports on what sells and all communication channels are being flooded with misinformation.

The left and the right live in completely different universes.

There are no longer any common truths.

So the solution you're proposing is basically more education? I think that just making politicians pass an exam won't do it, we need a massive education system reform to make people more intelligent. Democracy just can't function with such a dumb population

Of course that is necessary. Problem is it takes too long.

Democrats need to stop talking about race/ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+, and any other social justice issues besides abortion and climate change. Abortion is the only social issue that Democrats are clearly winning and climate change is one of the most vital issues for everyone in the long-run.

The Democrats have kept moving too far to the left on social issues since the 1970s and need to move more to the left on economic issues.

The issue is that people who have prejudices against gay people, trans people, racial minorities, ethnic minorities, religious minorities, etc. are easily weaponized to divide the working class.

And those straight working class white males will easily have their ire turned away from the powerful and towards these scapegoat groups... to divide the working class populace so that there's infighting instead of a united front.

So, while you might see a focus towards gay rights or trans rights as being the thing that divides the left and the working class... it is actually the prejudice against gay and trans people (and religious and ethnic minorities) that does that.

You can't have transphobia in your working class movement any more than you can have gender equality in your ethnostate.

If you want some elements of the far right (like rejection of the focus toward gay and trans people), you take everything that comes with it.

So, if you don't want authoritarianism, you have to learn to accept people's differences.

And if you reject people differences, the more you usher in Fascism.

Gay and trans people exist. It's not an ideology... it's a fact of the world.

Just deal with that fact... and don't be the weak link that divides the working classes with foolish prejudices and infighting... as that only plays into the hands of the powerful.

@Emerald I totally agree with you. Me personally I have nothing against gay or trans people, I would much rather be friends with them than to be friends with a right winger. But what I meant with my comment is that the governing centre left has gone way too over the top with things that are meaningless. When your house is burning you should focus on putting out the fire, not planting flowers in your front yard! Thats what I perceived the gov doing to the working class. They focused all their attention on basically useless pronoun policies, gender identity and LGBTQ propaganda! I understand that our society needs that too, but I think at this point we have too many gay rights but too few policies that strengthen unions, welfare and social security. All I am saying is that the left in its crussade to defend gay rights ( which in my opinion no one really even threaten) they left the working class defenseless. How could I not be enraged when the left is endlessly protesting and advocates for gender identity when my boss has acquired his 3rd yacht and helicopter and I can't afford to do maintenance repair on my 20 year old car? I mean for real? The fact that we focus so much on bullshit that is basically useless for 99.99% of the population is what made the far right take the power.

Totally right! But actually climate policies is also what made the afd in Germany get so much votes! Many factories and industries that were powered by coal were decommissioned in Germany and as a result many people were left unemployed! I think that climate action is needed badly but unfortunately it was done very foolishly by the rulling left govt. They have shut down the main industrial pollution centres while offering no suitable green energy substitute. Also does climate change stop if Germany or Europe or the US use 100% green energy? Of course not, you still have 70% more of the planet that doesn't give a damn about climate change. For climate change to stop there should be a global effort in that direction. The current approach only will accelerate climate change because of the huge backlash and deregulation that comes when the far right ultimately takes the power from the left due to these policies that directly impacted the citizenry. The citizenry doesn't care about climate when they are fired from their job because of measures to stop climate change.

Climate change needs to be framed in a way that has to be with providing the working class, middle class, and working poor good-paying green jobs like the IRA has been on its way to doing. They also need to talk about how renewable energy will be the future backbone of our economy and will bring about perpetual energy independence in the US.

Bernie Sanders is a great example of how to do this well - while he's clearly very progressive on social issues, pretty much all of his messaging is laser focused on how ordinary Americans are getting screwed over by a system that favors billionaires and corporations at thier expense.

When he's asked about social issues, he's very adept at framing his response around economic populism in a way that ordinary people can understand.

There's a reason that Bernie has the highest favorability rating of any US Senator.

Yes! Thats it! Totally agree! Bernie Sanders is the only politician in the world that really focuses his work around what the majority of people need! If the whole left would be like Bernie then we might have a chance to take power back from the right!

This.

(Also it doesn't undermine the validity subjects related and similar to the LGBTQ+ movement, it's just stopping making it out to be a world ending subject of unimaginable importance).

The left needs to stop weaponising sex and gender. The right is getting pissed off and voting for Donald trump's.

This is something I like to call: truth.

It's stimulating the right and provoking trumpism.

Yet, he lost the Democratic nomination in 2016 and 2020. It wasn't even close either times.

It's because he doesn't come off as someone who can relate to most everyday Americans culturally.

The opposite is more likely: AI becomes the next source of dogma and group-think. People stop thinking entirely and just parrot AI. Already happening on this forum.

Shits all about the perils of AI, and not just AI taking over - Using a machine to think for you removes humanities essential nature.

I've noticed that happening to myself. Whenever I am not sure of something I ask AI. And I take as truth the information given.

Likewise how we take what Trump says to be true. And if not Trump, the critiques of him from others.

This self-deception is endless!
