How many hours to get good at Pure Dance?

13 posts in this topic

At the current rate (15 mins a day) I'm expecting to hit around 150 hours at the end of 2026. Will that be enough or should I give it more time?

I think something like this is weird to do like a practical routine but maybe the kind of person who is very logical and routinely needs exactly that.

Pure dance can be a lot of fun, if you dont learn to get any enjoyment out of it you wont become good at it.

I did a lot of free dancing in clubs and often at home. Maybe like 80 hours in total, hard to tell. Well you learn to get more and more comfortable in pure dance and you put more emotions into it. So you grow to enjoy it more.

Some tipps are valueable, like dance with your soul not with your mind.

Basically Pure Dance is the ability to dance to your feelings in an unchoreographed way. The more you practice the better it looks

Haven't done much practice but it obviously looks like it will let you adapt to whatever music/situation is going on in terms of dancing.

You're not dancing to your feelings; you're feeling the dance, then using those feelings to guide you.

Don't worry about the hours; just do what works for you. You're defeating the purpose with these details. Be spontaneous with it while still being purposeful and with intent.

What Leo is describing in that blog post is a very spontaneous Feminine energy way of approaching dance and your relationship to your body and your emotions.

If you're scheduling it in and doing this kind of calculus, it's a very Masculine energy way to approach things. Even the idea of practicing it is kind of iffy because it treats it like a goal to be achieved... which is also Masculine energy.

Too Masculine is stiff and nerdy... and systematized and scheduled... and too controlled... like an algorithmic brain in a jar.

To really engage in this, operate spontaneously from how you feel and let it come naturally.

@Magnanimous It depends on how easy it is for you to cut loose.

If it's really easy for you, then you probably don't need any practice.

If you struggle with it, then it's going to take some effort. It's hard to approximate the number of hours, just work at it until you notice a difference. Try not to turn it into too much of a grind and suck the joy out of it. It's supposed to be fun.

That, does, not, compute, beeb boop.

@Magnanimous

Sllightly more seriously, I used to "Pure Dance" every day for ten minutes or two or three songs - mostly 80's coz I'm old but it's good to flail about to - for many months. I did it because I was always a crap dancer and figured that it was because I'd always been too embarrassed to dance in front of others. I stopped in the end because I think I was pulling my neck muscles. Still, I went to a party recently and got told that I was "A good little mover" QED.

Thanks @Emerald. So I should Pure Dance whenever I feel like it (operating spontaneously, letting it come naturally), and eventually without needing to track/schedule the amount of time I put into it, I'll become good automatically because I will have practiced enough?

Yes, just feel when you're interested in listening to music and want to move to it. And notice anything that stands in the way.

A lot of this is the process of subtracting resistances rather than adding skills.

Ok so 17.33333 hours a year. Do you want me to spread out my learning over many years because I was following your blog post recommendation of learning over 1-2 years?

I have been freestyle dancing for couple decades, both spontaneously as I’m listening to music throughout the day and having separate time planned to dance. I also enjoy going to clubs a lot due to that I know I get to dance there and I love it.

Am I doing Masculine Pure Dancing?
