So, Why Do You Value Truth?

26 posts in this topic

I really want to know.

Through Leo's latest blog posts especially it has really broken through to me that most people really do not value truth (or not as much). And I understand from a survival perspective why but that's not the point of me asking this.

And for the people who claim here that truth is their highest value another question is: Why do you value truth over other values? (like more buddhist-goals of peace, cessation of suffering, healing, enlightenment, as are common on the spiritual path).

Personally, I am falling more and more in love with truth and the pursuit of realizing it, with understanding, simply by realizing more of it. Not always, I often run back into safer falsehoods, but with time and surrender there came a realization that reality is perfect. Why resist what is if you realize it is already perfect? In the beginning it destroyed my christian worldview but with time and surrender I fell more in love with truth. And because it feels to me to be the most important thing. What could be more important than understanding reality itself? But that importance might not be self-evident until you realize it.

I have thought about this a lot recently and I would like to think truth is my highest value but have to admit I do not know this for sure.

There is nothing but Truth. Truth is manifesting in infinite ways. Even that asshole down the street that you think should die, yeah he is also Truth.

I wish to experience all aspects of myself fully, and that requires increasing consciousness of even the stuff you avoid and hate. That's will certainly transform you.

It comes naturally with certain personality types, INTJ, INTP. They care about truth right away even as children.

A social butterfly would have a much harder time caring about truth as children when they get so much enjoyment from socializing

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Cause I was scared/Had thirst in my heart.

Quote by Sadhguru.

'Theres only one thing I'm trying to tell you,

I'm just trying to beat my own drum,to blow my own trumpet.

That I know I know I know!

what which you want to know, is also me.

That which can know is also me

This is the self trumpet that I am blowing all the time!

Dont believe all the other words, all I am trying to say is I know I know!

This is somebody blowing his own trumpet all the time

day in and day out every opportunity,Whether people are willing or not willing

Whether the situation is appropriate or not appropriate, same thing

this sounds hedonistic,

If there is not thirst in your heart it is a horrible thing, somebody going on saying he knows

if there is a thirst in your heart to hear this, that someone can clearly say that he knows

its the greatest benediction.

If there is thirst in your heart.'

I had no option it was my default setting to be terrified of dying and I was looking for a way out. I was looking for truth on accident and found it on accident. I now value it because its the only thing to value.

The closer to truth, the closer to God.

The closer to God, the closer to yourself.

The truth is that no one really values truth . They value money ..success..comfort ..health..and happiness.

Truth is this present moment. There you go I solved the entire mystery of existence for ya.

Now go enjoy your life 😂.

You can actually value truth.

How so when I am Truth ? You think there is a capital-T truth hiding behind God's butthole that you can discover if you keep doing colony to reality assuming that Truth is not this ?

What can you possibly find valuable in falsity? There's nothing else to value but the truth.

Truth is valuable precisely because it's true. And falsity has no meaning precisely because it's false.

This is totally backwards.

You value truth precisely because you are it.

Valuing truth can also be about more relative, normal life situations. It doesn't always have to be the deepest existential truth.

In my understanding of life, commitment to truth is key to living a fulfilling life. Go of example, how can you live a meaningful life of you don't know what the meaning of life is? If you do not realize how deeply self deceived you could be, then your life will be full of falsehoods and illusions.

Commitment to truth is my understanding of self love. I don't see how I can love myself if I don't love myself for who I truly am rather than as something I am not. This is about being authentic and honest, and it overlaps with things like God realization. In my understanding self love is impossible without truth.

I have been curious about existence since my childhood. I started exploring different religions at a young age and ended up agnostic.

Part of this was originally a trauma response. I wanted to use truth to ground my sense of reality, but the result is the use of relative truth to resist absolute truth while creating an identity around a narrative. Absolute truth might instead undermine your entire sense of reality.

For me, truth has a very practical purpose: It's incredibly exhausting to pretend that things are other than they are. And it leads nowhere.

  •  I am insecure and try to pretend otherwise? People will notice anyway. So I can stop wasting my resources trying to cover this.
  • I want to make the next step in my development? I need to accept things as they are to change them. I will not be able to change what I don't accept
  • I want to have a fulfilling live? I need to find out what I truly want instead of chasing wishful thinking
  • Lastly and most importantly: In my experience, life mirrors and reflects me. So if for instance I want to find the right partner for me, I need to send out actions that are as authentic and truthful as possible. Because if I don't, life will always reflect someone that does not reflect my true desires and needs. It will reflect a fake image of who I want to be instead of who I am. Self-sabotage at its best.

Happiness/bliss and Love generate truth.. as does Truth generate pleasure and Love..because they are the same thing. So it's a two-sided way . I always wondered about what I value most .. truth or happiness?  And everytime I contemplate this question I answer : happiness obviously.

Because love/bliss/ happiness are "faster" than Truth..because Love is a bit more closer to Truth than Truth is.

Omg look at the hippy things you made me say xD

It is useful not to think of it as an ideal called "Truth." Just: What is true at any level? What is ultimately or absolutely true, and also what is true regarding X or Y, such as experience, relationships, skill, your field of work, emotions, etc. True as what is.

Everyone thinks they love, cherish, value, uphold truth and hate all things and all people that are false.

Nobody will change their mind, since they know best what works for them and best develops them.

And you're so different to them right?

Absurd question.

Truth is one aspect of the Highest. But not the only one. Depending on your life purpose you can have another aspect of God as your highest value. (for example Love or Creativity, but I'm sure there's more)

Why value Truth? Because everything else that's not also an aspect of God is ephemeral (for example community, wealth, good feelings and so on). If you value those higher than Truth you'll be left empty handed. In fact those things lose all of their value if they're not grounded in Absolute Truth. In other words: Everything that is not grounded in Truth will automatically defy itself. It can't exist by itself if it isn't grounded in Existence itself — which is just another name for Absolute Truth.

Love, Creativity, Goodness, Consciousness, Evolution, Balance, Perfection, Abundance, Beauty, Completeness, Intelligence, and so on are all aspects of one and the same.

But isn't this contradictory? How can there even be ANYTHING lesser than Truth itself?

Because Truth is structured in such an intelligent, perfect way that it MUST contain all un-truths. The art is in not getting lost in those but seeing Truth through them all (this is what's being called Maya). That-which-is can only exist through that which-is-not. This is the Divine Paradox. That-which-is remains forever formless and all forms that appear in it must be what-is-not. Can't you see the ingenuity of this!? It is such perplexing elegance.. It is so rich, so endlessly explorable and fascinating but also at the same time NOTHING at all.

Wow that took a turn at the end  :D

And what remains.. is Love. This is the ultimate Truth.

BUT IT IS NOT EVEN SEPARATED. Only temporary.
What appears is the formless in an endless love-relationship whit itself.

An endless, eternal yearning to express the inexpressible.

The Universe is making Love to itself :x
