Though I'm guessing this particular definition is more about pseudo-rationalists and propagandists, few better examples than Roy Cohn come to mind when it came to twisting truth.

So in laymen’s terms: a person who has built their life on a dishonest belief system. 

If that’s the case many people have done this in various areas of their life.

I think the people who obviously perpetuate limiting societal beliefs the most though are politicians, news, social media tech guys who have brainwashed people with their algorithms.
