Does Family Ground Us?

3 posts in this topic

For a while I held this belief that family brings me down into some old frequency that I'm trying to grow out of. But now I think family might actually keep me grounded.

Why do so many spiritual people get triggered by nothing, except their family? They always know how to press your buttons, don't they?

Ram Dass always had these great stories about being high after a long retreat but falling back into his old self when triggered by family.

But what if family doesn't bring you down, but rather grounds you back into reality, helping you develop? In this case I'm talking when you don't live with your parents anymore.

I think it's different for different people and families.

Young people going on ayahuasca retreats then returning to a healthy family is probably great.

Of course it is.

For me it's been both - triggering and grounding.

Most triggering, when I was first discovering all the novel ways to live, for my family to dismiss or misunderstand them.

Most grounding, when I was visting them on Sunday, after tripping on acid in my apartment, and losing any sense of stability. Tripping a lot and living on my own for 8 months, made me miss my parents a lot.
