How to communicate / navigate relating to spiral stage Red

5 posts in this topic

I'm going to be doing some work inside some very dangers favelas in Brazil with a local guide who has an NGO there. Many pure stage red people with some blue forming in the evangelical churches in the area. Teenagers with guns, drugs, crack heads, a truly rough place unheard of in western countries. I am from a first world country (USA) and a safe area in it as well. I don't have much experience interacting with stage red. How can someone higher on the spiral communicate with people at stage red and keep themselves safe and also perhaps shine consciousness on the situation where red may benefit? I was thinking of taking a blue approach, interacting with them from a blue perspective so they can relate, for example talk about a theist god with them and display blue values that the church has.

What kind of work is this?

Intrinsic joy is revealed in the marriage of meaning and being.

You have to project strength - fundamentally and without exception.

People like this will exploit any weakness for their own petty, selfish ends. That’s just how they operate.

You don’t “learn” this in theory - you internalize it through direct exposure. Over time, through repeated contact, your body learns. Your nervous system calibrates. Until it’s not just an idea - it’s in your gait, your posture, your vocal inflection, your eye contact. It’s in how long you hold a pause. Whether you flinch. Whether you look away. Whether you apologize too quickly.

Only then - once it’s second nature - are you, as goes Whiteheads formula, truly free to pursue whatever moral or visionary project you’re on without it collapsing under its own weight. And more importantly, without putting yourself in danger.

“Did you ever say Yes to a single joy? O my friends, then you said Yes to all woe as well. All things are chained and entwined together, all things are in love; if ever you wanted one moment twice, if ever you said: ‘You please me, happiness! Abide, moment!’ then you wanted everything to return!” - Friedrich Nietzsche

Listen to Robert Greene book the 48 laws of power to shield yourself from power and stage red. Listen to Leo's episode strictly on stage red of Spiral Dynamics.

You got this!!! Stay Safe 🙏🏽

Assuming you wanna come back to America safe and sound you should try to avoid conflict with stage red as much as possible. For example if red curses at you or verbally bullies you, you shouldn't respond with fire to fire. You should say sorry man I didn't mean to offend you and change the subject to a more friendly topic. But also you should follow @Nilsi's advice regarding body language and how you present yourself. You also don't wanna come of as an easy target. But as a general rule you should present yourself as a firm and strong man via your body language but via your verbal language you should try to be friendly and non confrontational but your tone of voice should sound like you are a firm and worthy of respect dude. Aka don't talk with a feminine flimsy tone of voice
