I really want to move to the USA

20 posts in this topic

The USA is almost heaven compared to most countries on Earth. I really want to move to America in the future, America has so many smart people. Another thing I love about America is how much you seem to value technology. As an engineer and now a medical student, this really impresses me, you guys have no idea how disgraceful it is to live in a low-level culture in a third-world country, it's almost disgusting, like hell on earth ( I'm Brazilian).

I had to go to med school because I couldn't find a job as an engineer, years spent on it for nothing. People here don't value tech, engineering, knowledge, or truth in general, and this makes me sick. I think you guys will continue to be the most powerful nation for generations to come.

Im American and actually live in Brazil now. I’m dating a Brazilian and I love it here so much more. Don’t be fooled, America isn’t as advanced as “committed to Truth” as you think. It’s mostly a shit hole and it’s only getting worse. I find the energy in Brazil much better.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard about the recent detainings but it’s likely best to avoid the US for a while, France, Germany, UK, Canada and Mexico have all recently advised their citizens not to go there. Honestly I’m ashamed to be American especially these days, its such a cringe country and culture. I’ll stay in Brazil thanks

Where in Brazil are you? What state? What city? I’m in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and I do agree this country has problems. It has a lot of crime, it’s dirty and there is a lack of education, but you also take for granted some amazing things about this place which the USA doesn’t have.

@Lyubov Yeah I’m honestly blown away by Brazil, it’s like heaven here, the vibes are way better. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but I enjoy life here much more.

It’s personal. I do love Brazil too but I also see there are massive problems here. I wouldn’t say it’s heaven for many people especially if you live in the favelas and earn reis. But there’s a ton of amazing culture here and it’s a good place to get inspired by nature, lots of adventures to be had here too. I find it much more inspiring than the USA but also I miss the safety and how clean much of the USA is, also service is much better and work situation is better. I wouldn’t move back though.

I'm from Minas Gerais, where I went to engineering school, but right now I'm studying medicine at a university called UFSC in Santa Catarina (the best state here in Brazil, you guys have to visit it!). It's a great state, but it's still Brazil. I'm tired of this place. I want to go to the U.S. as a doctor or through the investor visa (I will be trying to get this money by investing and working as a doctor).

@Lyubov Sure, I get that. Also you being in Rio, I definitely get it, I never felt like I could relax there, the crime is out of control. I’m in a safe beach town up north and it’s probably a different experience. But yeah I find the way of life very inspiring here, and the energy is undeniable.

It’s definitely not without its issues though and I don’t want to be blind to that. IMO it’s worth it though, America kinda sucks.

Yeah, seeing that you’ve grown up here, maybe it’s a different experience and you crave something new. You might have a great time in America, who knows?

Isn’t it funny how we just want something different from what we grew up with?

I do love Brazil though, it’s such a special place, unlike anywhere in the world.

You guys like this country because you haven’t faced the things I have as a native. And most importantly, you don’t value tech and engineering as much as I do. I don’t want this for my children. Brazil is way lower on the Spiral Dynamics model, where people really don’t give a shit about truth because they’re just trying to stay alive first. I just can’t stand this place.

Observation: Rio is a shithole, even by Brazilian standards. Lol. You guys are crazy hahaha

Try Florianopolis, nice city.

You mean "traditional" engineering roles? I don't know how those fields are doing but software engineer here is not a weak career at all.

I've been to the field and there's still plenty of gold to harvest(especially if you try to go in the IA field too in the meantime); and the best part is that you don't necessarily need a degree to get into it.

And like people are saying above, USA is not all rainbows and butterflies(especially now with Trump lol), I wouldn't live there if I wanted to leave Brazil that's for sure.

I'm subject to this immigration process myself, An F1 visa is one option if you want to continue studying to get yourself there, and an H1B to stay. Bear in mind that you are not allowed to work while studying, not even remotely, so you should already have money saved up for a year of tuition and living expenses.

I would strongly recommend visiting at least 2-3 US cities just to get a feel of how it actually is, I had some culture shocks and fantasy-busting experiences there even though I considered myself a connoisseur of US culture all my life.

Some culture shocks were also due to the high contrast/differences between what my original culture and country has been versus the US version. So even if me and you were the same person but one of us grew up in Europe and the other in South America, we would experience the US differently.

The only paths you have are basically either H1B or EB2 visa (best visa by far but takes some work)

On EB2 you still won't have permanent residency but you are allowed infinite extensions, and you can stay there for 5 years before needing to extend your stay.

I decided to continue traveling and experience more US culture before I take my immigration process further than it is now, I'm gonna rent a car/van this summer and tour the entire western US likely.

I have a few friends from Brazil and want to visit.

But yea crime is wild in many places there.

An American who travelled most over Latin America told me the only place he got robbed was Brazil.

(By Brazilian kids with guns basically)

Thank you for your tips and knowledge, it will be useful to me.

The grass is always greener on the other side. US has a lot of problems in its own way. A lot of homeless and addicted people. At the end it is what you value. If you value money and development, and you have a degree, it would make sense for you to go. For me the best is a country that is very developed in tech and economy and still has heart centered people.

What examples of countries would you rather live in? Luxembourg has a passive income visa program. What do you think about this country?

I haven’t been to Luxembourg but it is a very small country for my taste. Switzerland would be more to my taste. I’m in IT and the salaries are high there but I’m not in Switzerland. A lot of Italians and Mediterranean people in Switzerland with whom I have more chemistry than for example Germans who can be a tad “different”; closed off people and hard to make friends with.

There are additional things like the US green card lottery which you should definitely be playing every October, you can get a green card without much hassle, with bad chances but still.

I didn’t really consider it myself, but one day I went around manhattan in New York city asking random people how they got their visas, a lot of them said they won it in the lottery on their 8th try. Pretty much every guy selling fast food on Broadway street got it that way

Magical times… Makes me tear up even though it was only a few months ago

This country has literally no appeal beyond purchasing power.
And yet, it's not that far from Western Europe.

Moving to the USA is the worst idea I could even fathom. Left USA in 2022 and never looked back.
