Wim Hof Domestic Abuse Allegations

9 posts in this topic

Intuitively, I didn't want to believe this news when I first heard it a few months ago. Wim Hof has said he will sue the newspaper for false allegations.

However, this isn't just a gossip paper, and ChatGPT tells me that:

The credibility of the de Volkskrant article is reinforced by its reliance on official documents and corroborative accounts from multiple family members. Furthermore, the allegations have led to significant repercussions, including the suspension of a planned biopic about Hof's life. However, it's important to note that Hof disputes these claims and has initiated legal proceedings to contest them. Given the ongoing nature of these legal actions, the full extent of the allegations and their implications remain to be conclusively determined.

A report published in de Volkskrant newspaper on Saturday claimed the 65-year-old had subjected his former partner, their son and her two children from a previous marriage to physical and verbal abuse over a period of 13 years.

That being said, it is not entirely unsurprising that he has domestic violence in his past when you realize that he got into the breathing method because his first wife killed herself.

I think we all tend to lionize our coaches and influences, but as we find out, they're not perfect by any means.

I did the breathing for a while.

And i still do it from time to time against anxiety.

To me it seemed a little problematic how it was called „the Wim Hof“ breathing and everything was built around him as a person.

Just seemed a bit ego centric.

Idk what people expect 🤷‍♂️ people make mistakes. They put these people on pedestals. Everyone has made some mistakes. I looked through what he did and it really doesn’t sound like some massive thing assuming the truth is somewhere in the middle between what he’s accused of and what he says happened. I’m all for canceling careers if they did something heinous but some domestic disputes, ok?

Does it really matter? His work is still great.

That's what I'm saying.

This is psychology 101.. how bigger the person, how bigger the shadow (unconsciousness). That is why it is important to idolize the right people which requires a keen eye. One can always learn from everybody but worshiping idols is something else. People aren't Gods and they are prone to monkey business. I always smirk when people talk down on big names like Elon Musk and such. If you would had 10% of the power and money he has you would go ape shit and turn into a monster. With great power comes what?

Everyone has serious flaws. Once I had the courage to be honest about a strong disagreement I had with a man I idolized, it revealed my ego’s desire to conserve energy by looking to someone else for all the answers.
