If you have the money to get out of the USA, why haven't you?

Human society lived through thousands of years of famine, disease and predators. More recently, the black plague and two world wars. It will withstand the ramblings of a brain dead narcissist.

Of course it doesn’t mean you will remain unscathed. I am one of those immigrants at risk, despite being here legally. Still not gonna run like some kid at the first sign of resistance.

This is incorrect. Majority of people are fine. 1% of people will be screwed.

Don't forget that a majority voted for this. Majority hated Biden, so let them have a taste of Trump.

You really are rolling back previous comments you've made if you really think only 1% of people on Earth will be affected in any way shape or form by Trump.

Shaming people who leave the piece of land they were born in by random chance as if they owe it any sort of allegiance has less effect than you think, doubly so when it seems like you're admitting you left your own country yet are shaming others for doing the same in the same post.

That's my take as well.

When I was healthy I could relate to Leo's position, but after a freak accident I couldn't work more than 2 hours a day for almost 10 years.

I fear for those that aren't healthy.

I'm a first generation American, the rest of the family are legal immigrants (citizens now). I look white, but they are being super cautious about being profiled because they look Mexican as hell.

I have family that DID work for the government, one was forced to retire early because of DOGE. The other is just looking for something new now. This was just in the last month

Also, I work in tech, and right now, there are very few jobs. The market has been highly competitive since around when Biden took office. Who knows what's on the horizon. All my coworkers are terrified of being laid off.

I do think Leo is underestimating the economic situation that's going to unfold. Comparing this to the Biden+Trump 1.0 era is comparing apples to oranges.

Definitely. When you or people you care about are directly impacted by things, it gives you a lot more perspective.

And unfortunately, the average person will be affected directly by this administration.

They will definitely get a taste of Trump.

And it will be most people who are negatively impacted in some shape or form.

I lived outside the US for 15 years and came back.  I plan on leaving again, but not for politics.  Most of the people giving lip service to leaving never will because they are not suited for the adventure.  I have found that once you get out of America, most people in the world aren’t  obsessed with America and its politics.

Yeah, I live in Brazil and barely feel the effects of Trumps bullshit. It’s fantastic. But I do feel bad for all the Americans, Canadians and everyone else getting absolutely fucked by his antics

I wonder how the vibe in America is these days

I moved to Europe, but I really love Brazilians, they're way warmer than Europeans and Americans. What city are you in and why do you like the vibe there?

@yetineti The lack of foresight is astounding. If you would risk waiting until martial law is in place you have failed strategically.

If you guys can't take the hints where this is heading I dont know what to tell you. Hopefully, I'm wrong, but I'm usually not.

@Socrates

Running isn’t a strategy, it’s a reaction.

Staying where I am is the least risky thing I could do and the most fiscally sound.

LMAO the premise that everyone who leaves America is some sort of fleeing traitor is so unbelievably cucked.

So standing firm and handling things rationally is ‘cucked,’ but running away at the first sign of trouble isn’t? Interesting logic.

Definitionally, leaving a place due to fear or instability is fleeing—I used that word correctly. I never said it makes someone a traitor; that was added by yourself.

I did move tho lmao. And you don't make sense - Leo has the money to move if he so chose - so he's spoiled? I thought you were defending him. Doesn't make sense.

Yes, moving to another country is a privilege. If you have that privilege but choose to stay— it means you see value in staying.

And if you have that privilege and do not understand how it is a privilege that is called being ungrateful.

If you also think exercising that privilege to leave is a necessity rather than a choice, you’re just panicking and acting entitled to said panic instead of standing your ground and being strategic about your positioning and actions.

This guy wrote

"If you moved halfway through the Biden administration or feel like you need to move now— you’re fleeing. You’re running away and your brain is being rotted by politics. "

So I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.

If you moved halfway through the Biden administration or feel like you need to move now— that is by definition fleeing.

And if that made sense to you, you would’ve made a point instead of dismissing me.

Biden’s economy could be expensive. It also took awhile to recover. But it was nothing like 2008 or other examples.

If you make over $34,000 a year you’re in the top 1% of the world.

People will always complain, run, justify, dismiss. Nobody wants to sit still and deal with any of it.

I'm sorry but I can't take your posts seriously at all. Not sure why you're so offended and calling me privileged for being able to move, saying im running away and why you're so nationalist about USA

@oldhandle

Sarcasm isn’t an argument, and exaggeration isn’t evidence.

If you think leaving is the only rational choice, then make the case for it.

Otherwise, all you’re proving is that this is just fear and emotions masquerading as strategy.

Make your case as to why it's superior to live in America than Europe then

I’m not arguing that America is better than Europe.

I’m saying leaving out of fear and emotion isn’t a strategic decision.

If you think things were bad, the burden is on you to explain why leaving was necessary for you.

Otherwise, it was just reacting out of fear, not making a thoughtful decision.

Are you actually looking for a discussion, or just for people to agree with you?

If the goal was to debate leaving vs. staying, wouldn’t you be making the case for why leaving was necessary instead of expecting everyone else to justify staying?

It seems like you’re looking for validation.
