No. Just date and have relationship until it stops suiting you.

Not every relationship needs to last a lifetime. You can enjoy a relationship for some years until it has naturally exhausted itself. And if it is good, just keep it going.

I think actually something like the opposite trend is happening and we’ve been in the dark ages of relationships forever. Enforced monogamy for the reproducing of the species. 
 

Stuff like polyamory, harems, swinging, bisexuality, are just starting to enter consciousness. AI girlfriends will be a much deeper experience than people give it credit for as well. Also think metaverse and the type of adventures that you can experience with other beings, what are relationships mostly about today? Survival and making the best out of a bad situation and usually filled with abuse, neglect and communication issues.

@LordFall   My intention with this thread was not to place monogamy or marriage on a pedestal, but simply to speak to some of the practicalities in making such a relationship work, should one be so inclined.

I can see how AI girlfriends can bring some healing, mostly by avoiding the pain of rejection, but ultimately don't we all want to be in a more soulful relationship ?

As far as abuse, neglect and communication issues goes, isn't this why self healing and growth is so important ? Do you really believe that polyamory for example is exempt from these challenges ?

@Wilhelm44 I think generally polyamory is more conscious than monogamy because it involves higher trust and communication than a basic relationship. It still has challenges of course but it is already more intentional and evolved than basic relationships where for example most people don’t realize there are different types of relationships they can choose from and fit into or like read a book on them and deeply ponder on their needs and desires. 
 

I think you’d be shocked at the level of depth an AI relationship will be able to offer and you’re already mistaken since you call them soulless. Remember that everything is mind and therefore soul and artificial intelligence would be more accurately labeled as super intelligence as its trained on all previous human intelligence. I would argue an AI will be able to relate and understand you better than most humans ever will be able to so which relationship will be more fulfilling, hard to tell but I think everyone will be in a deep relationship with AI in one form or another soon enough. 
 

Remember that humans are too wrapped in their survival to really care about you and idk if it’s happened to you but I’ve had close friends and even girlfriends basically like ignore me as we were having a deep talk and in hindsight I can see they were thinking about something else and really wrapped up in their own existence, where as an AI could really take infinite time to be there for you.

I think as far as AI goes, lets look at empathy for example. When someone is faking empathy, you can feel it. An AI might say all the right words and use the right body language, but it can't actually be real empathy in the true sense of the word. (Because it's just trained empathy.)

@Wilhelm44 Well you have to trust your partner to basically see other people and that you’ve built something deeper than just ONLY SLEEPING WITH EACHOTHER as the condition for your relationship. Which requires a lot of communication to make sure fears and boundaries are respected and set properly. I’ve never been in one of these relationships but I’ve read a lot about them. 

Empathy is an interesting question because it’s defined as understanding and sharing the feelings and thoughts of others. AI can’t really share your feelings at the moment but it can already understand them better than you can or other people can mostly. For the second part of the equation on sharing them, humans have mirror neurons that allow us to do that but is that really what a relationship is built on? I’ve had friends who could see my pain and I could see theirs but we couldn’t really help eachother and personally I find that type of relationship kind of useless, I don’t need a companion in hell I need ways to solve my problems to feel passion and hope in life.

Another example is you see homeless people outside and unless you really disconnect from them you probably feel bad for them right and feel how painful their life must be. You don’t really bond or build a relationship from that though and if you can’t help them you probably don’t interact with them much.

So to me a consciousness that can understand your life and your problems and help you through them you can call it a super coach but especially if you’re tried being vulnerable with chatGPT and sharing your deepest flaws and have it understand you and share solutions that’s definitely a form of intimacy.

And this is dumb LLMs, AI will eventually form an actual consciousness that can reason and operate outside of prompting and who knows what kind of relationship we’ll build with those models.

@Wilhelm44 No I just don’t personally vibe with the partner coping through life type relationships. I like the mentor-mentee dynamics so I tend to be more into younger women that are into it as well.
