High Quality forms of entertainment?

14 posts in this topic

I was reading Conversations With God Book 2, and in it God goes beyond Body-based pleasures, and into Mind + Soul Based pleasures. He gives us general overview like music, reading books you can learn from, poetry, learning, etc, but I wanted some more specific examples of high quality entertainment to go apply in my life.

Now that I've read CWG my perspective is changing and I'm enjoying gaming and lots of video entertainment less and less, which will only worsen as my development grows. It would be nice to have something I'd really enjoy as leisure again.

@Magnanimous I think reading literature is a form of high quality entertainment. Also creative things like writing fiction, painting etc.

Can also put some art in your room

If you have to force yourself to do it, is it really entertainment? You can create new habits, but if you are working towards a goal, you should give yourself at least some time for "proper" entertainment where you don't care what you do. There is no work without rest. How (and how much) you decide to do that is up to you.

Here's some ideas:

Learn a new language.

Learn how to cook.

Travel.

Learn an instrument.

Play a sport.

.

Don't listen to these people that tell you that you shouldn't force yourself. The truth is you may need to initially force yourself to do these things before they become enjoyable. But it will be worth it. 🙂

You need to sometimes force yourself a bit to get the ball rolling.

Creative projects are much more fulfilling than "empty-calorie" entertainment. Being in flow with a project your in love with is one of the best parts of life. Both have their place though.

Hand tufting is an affordable and relatively brainless hobby while still giving your that creative fulfillment. Something to chip away at day by day. Good podcasting activity.

Yes, you can develop new habits that become your new "go-to". Scrolling TikTok for 5 hours even though it's the path of least resistance might not be ideal or even restful. But sometimes you have to take the path of least resistance.

I consciously avoided short-form content since it became a thing specifically so it didn't even get the chance of becoming a "path of least resistance". It's obviously so bad for you and addicting. Literally anything else is better.
