How did Neale Donald Walsch acquire the ability to channel God?

In his books God says Neale's whole life had been leading up to this moment of becoming a divine messenger, but God also says everyone can have their own conversation with him. It's just Neale could do it directly. How did he do this? Does he have special genetics/psychic potential/exceptional baseline consciousness?

Are you sure it's God speaking there? I used to see CwG as the holy grail of spirituality as well, but after further spiritual development, I can see that it's not God speaking but Donald writing a book about what he learned from various teachers—mostly New Age ones—since there's so much about manifestation and living the good life and nothing much about actually awakening from the dream. A human could write that book; there's nothing that spectacular there to attribute it to God himself. Donald actually read A Course in Miracles, so in his book, there are some borrowed ideas from there. There's nothing original in that book, which we would expect from a book if it was really spoken by God. Just my 2 cents, IMO it's more of a stepping stone teaching/book.

You gotta take this notion of "spoken by God" in proper context. What it means is it is a kind of channeling of higher self.

I posted on my blog a channeling of my own like that which I did on a psychedelic. I found a psychedelic which enabled this channeling ability in me. Of course it still filters through the Leo mind.

In truth we are all channeling all the time. We channel either love or fear(ego). None of our thoughts are even our own. Thoughts are more like a byproduct of what you have attuned yourself to. You can attune yourself to God directly, or to some other entity and receive downloads of them. The art of attunement is all about the heart and the crown, about the prayer and love conciousness. Channeling is a common ability within the heart based spiritual groups. Same as healing, miracles, ability to read other person's soul/mind, clairvoyance, talking to dead spirits/angels, ability to leave the body at will etc. All these abilities including channeling stem from the same practice of the heart. It's at the heart of christianity and shamanism and tantric (not sex) practices. Some sects of daoists are into it also. 

"align yourself with me and I will put words in your mouth, I will lead the way at your every step, fear not, for I am with you always" ~all over the Bible.

Tom Campbell said Neale was actually channeling the same entity that channeled Seth Speaks. It was just filtered through his Christian worldview.

And that Seth has "seeded" little messages like this everywhere.

It is a dangerous error to think this reality is the only one, or that it doesn't overlap with others.

You could be channeling God all day and not know you are doing it. The importance of quieting the mind is not pushed enough. If you know your baseline brain state you will notice when things come into your brain that clearly wasn't you as you know your mind is quiet. Until then you dont know what you are channeling. Use silence as a filter.
