The stereotypical online personality.

3 posts in this topic

The typical online personality is a cold, stoic, sarcastic act that most people put on. It's actually really false, and was probably developed by most people in high school to defend themselves against bullying. I think people are afraid to be "nice" these days, because the prevailing narrative is that people (especially guys) have to be tough and alpha to be respected. Also, people want to be perceived as interesting or mysterious or intellectual. Being genuine and kind is less common.

Maybe I am wrong, and it is just the filter I see the world through. But has anyone else noticed this?

Cue the sarcastic reponses.

I think it can vary a lot depending on community and other factors such as your cultural background. But I agree in that I would also like to see a bit more heart in general, without losing important capacities such as critical thinking.
