Joe Rogan’s Dad Hole

25 posts in this topic

It's less about his dad and more about just how corruption works.

As you amass power it corrupts you. Rogan aligned himself with all the powerful friends he made. Those friends corrupted him because he never had an epistemic foundation.

You become your friends.

Lol, yeah, I just thought Dad hole was funny.

It definitely is how corruption works and I think Rogan is probably the best case study for watching an average joe turn corrupt.

My favorite part of the video was Rogan talking about how people become rich assholes and start treating their coffee fetchers like shit and then he turned into that guy, publicly berating Jamie multiple times for watered down coffee. Lol.

I enjoyed this guy's perspective. Lots of research and hard work went into this video.

@Leo Gura Please I feel very lost right now.. How do I build my epistemic foundation? What videos of yours should I watch to have a strong epistemic foundation. What core values should I adopt? Please give me a blueprint on how to develop a good epistemic foundation so I will never become the sum of my friends. I live in a part of the world where most of the people around me are horrifyingly stupid and I don't wanna become like them.

@Daniel Balan I have a YT playlist called Epistemology which contains many of my epistemology related videos.

But I teach about epistemology all across my work.

And I am always creating more new epistemology videos.

My post-modernism series is one example. My deconstructing science is another.

If you want to develop an epistemic foundation you need to adopt an attitude of skepticism towards all human knowledge and do your own private inquiry into how anything at all could be known? Only by doing this inquiry will you see how truthful knowing is generated.

Do not confuse epistemic inquiry with self-inquiry.

Still planning a part 3?

Hope to get part 2 on lower vs. higher perspective. That’s probably my fav epistemological oriented series thus far.

But leo, what if epistemology is the ultimate path to falsehood? What if it just so happened to be that valuing truth leads to the most false worldviews?

The infuriating tragedy is that even if trump supporters were right somehow they would be right totally by accident, not by their own virtue.

I have watched most of that playlist. I am watching you @Leo Gura since 2014. But right now I am totally lost. The one video that made me like this is your video The power of not knowing. Right now I am without any identity. I feel like I can't know anything, and I can't enquire into anything accurately because all the information sources have been corrupted with human egoic agenda. I have no idea to what truth is. You say that Trump is evil, which is true from your POV, but from the pov of his rich friends he is an angel because he makes them be insanely powerful. So you talk a lot about the truth, but in my opinion all truth is relative! If I break into your house and steal 100k usd from you, my truth is that those money will make me able to feed my family for the next few years, but from your pov, I severely hindered your survival capacity and because of me you can no longer finance your business or feed your own family. So both perspectives have truth.

Please help me , I feel like a snowflake in the wind right now.

It's not that hard. Truth is your entire field of experience. Anything you experience is truth. But be careful not to conflate raw experience with your thoughts and concepts about it.

You start by distinguishing direct experience from all concepts. And you ground yourself in direct experience. Then you use that to sort through all human concepts.

Just look at your hand. That is truth. It is thoughts about your hand which create falsehoods and illusions. You could also have truthful thoughts but that requires very careful thinking.

So in order to find clarity again I must only perceive something as truthful if I have direct experience of said thing. If after careful examination and observation of someone or something I can draw a conclusion solely based on my personal observation. This leads me to truth, rather than using stories from other humans to asses if something is truthful or not.

Eg. Trump is a devil.
I should carefully study the way he acts and behaves, who are the guys who back him up, and after observing these things to use my own judgement to decide whether he is a devil or not. Rather that to blindly accept your statements about Trump, I should do my own inquiry on whether he is a devil or not.

But what if I am a redneck, orthodox christian, illiterate, all day long tiktok user, conspiracy theorist believer? How do I make sense of truth from this given position? From that position you can only find someone like Trump like a saviour. As do the people from that blog post of yours from few days ago where you said that's the reason you hate religion.

@Daniel Balan, but it seems that you know what truth points to.

It's not about me. I try to make sense of how other humans perceive truth. Because I see that the rednecks label the truth as falsehood and falsehood as truth.

Yeah. Many people do that.

However, I meant that you know the difference between truth and falsehood more.

Why? I think you are more aware of what you observe than other people.

What's interesting is that if falsehood wasn't true, truth wouldn't have been truth in the first place.

This is a great place to start.

You want to use truth to ground yourself, orherwise the mind devolves into conceptual fantasies and illusions.

What I said is even more fundamental than that.

"Trump is a devil" is a conceptual judgment. If you just look at your raw experience of Trump without any concepts you will not see any devil. You will not even see a human. You will see computer screens and photographs. Raw experience strips away all the mental noise, labels, and categories. This grounds you in raw reality. This cleanses the mind of trash.

By doing this exercise you will realize that you don't even know if Trump exists as a human. All you have are photographs of him. That's the truth.

@Leo Gura Thank you so much Leo. The post above is what finally made me understand what pure philosophy and perfect epistemology is really about. What I initially taught about epistemology is child's play compared to the magnitude of work required in order to do the real epistemology you advocated for in the post above.

@Lyubov, I thought it was crazy of me to think he was not funny. Not even some of his friends are generally funny to me.
