Brazil takes over BRICS presidency and will host bloc summit in Rio

The Brazilian government announced that the next BRICS summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, 2025.

In 2025, Brazil took over the rotating presidency of the BRICS on Wednesday and will hold the post until the end of this year. The country is now preparing to host the bloc’s summit, scheduled for July in Rio de Janeiro. Originally made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the group is expanding and has been welcoming new members and partners since last year. By 2025, at least nine countries, including Cuba, Bolivia, Indonesia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, and Thailand, are expected to join the BRICS.

In 2024, the BRICS countries overtook the G7 countries in terms of GDP share and now accounts for over 46 % of the world population.

What’s weird or interesting about BRICS is that there are democratic countries like Brasil and authoritarian countries like China and horrible countries like Russia.

I’m sure it’s not that easy to agree on things at times.

Ukraine is neither a member of G7 or G20 , and Zhelensky has objected to being ignored in recent G20 summits. 

However, it can be a member of BRICS and use the opportunity to improve diplomatic relations with Russia to the point of peace and friendship, and also better relatons with the Global South and improve its economy in the process.
